Steven Lutvak, Composer & Co-Lyricist for Tony Award Winner A Gentlemen's Guide to Love & Murder, Conducts Song Form Workshop at Wells Fargo Pavilion Sept. 10, Presented by California Musical Theatre Academy.
Steven Lutvak, the award winning composer and co-lyricist for the 2014 Best Musical Tony Award-winning A Gentlemen's Guide to Love & Murder, will conduct a workshop for songwriters and actors on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Wells Fargo Pavilion.
Presented by California Musical Theatre Academy, the workshop will explore song form, touching on factors such as the elements that make a successful song; the difference between a song with a chorus and verses and a song with verses and a bridge; how songs move stories forward; and the relevance of the songwriting process to actors. Lutvak believes that form is at the core of all aspects of a song, from its composition to its performance, and that understanding the structure of a song can help shape, strengthen and deepen its performance.
Workshop participants should be at least 15 years of age, and are asked to bring along sheet music and two or more of their own songs (for songwriters) or three favorite songs (for actors), from which Lutvak will choose one to focus on in the workshop. Participants will also be expected to sing an entire song during the workshop.
The workshop fee is $50 for participants and $25 for observers. To reserve a space, please call Joann Lewis, California Musical Theatre Academy, at (916) 446-5880, ext. 147. The Wells Fargo Pavilion is located at 1419 H Street in Sacramento. For information: CaliforniaMusicalTheatre.com/Academy.
Lutvak, an award-winning composer and lyricist, has worked as a vocal coach to many Oscar and Tony-winning actors on Broadway and in film for more than 30 years. He has also taught songwriting and is currently on faculty at New York University, having previously taught at Yale and Columbia.
