Airnesss by Chelsea Marcantel explores the world of competitive air guitar and the pursuit of "airness:" the illusive state of creative freedom and liberation from inhibitions The story follows Nina (played by Eloisa Lopez), who enters her first air guitar competition in a run-down bar in Staten Island. She thinks winning will be easy, but as she befriends a group of charismatic nerds who are all committed to becoming the next world champion, she discovers that there's more to this art form than just pretending. The characters take air guitar seriously, and it's about finding themselves in their favorite songs and performing with pure joy. Like the best backstage dramas, there are many intriguing secrets to be revealed about the characters' backgrounds and relationships. Airness is a comedy about competition, finding oneself, and the search for "airness."
