Capital Stage Presents THE REAL THING, Now thru 2/23

Capital Stage continues its ninth season, THE HOMEFRONT: Soul-Stirring plays, with a love story told with the sharp wit of celebrated playwright Tom Stoppard. The 1984 Tony Award-winning play THE REAL THING illuminates the mysteries of love and the complexities of marriage. Capital Stage's production will be directed by Janis Stevens and will run from tonight, January 22, 2014 through February 23, 2014, with a press opening on January 25.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Sir Tom Stoppard's THE REAL THING "is not only [his] most moving play, but also the most bracing play that anyone has written about love and marriage in years,"(Frank Rich, The New York Times). The play follows two show-biz couples whose onstage work has begun to blend with reality, forcing both marriages to the brink. Winner of the 1984 Tony Award for Best Play and the 2000 Tony Award for Best Revival, THE REAL THING is an intellectually and emotionally engaging backstage comedy that explores concepts of love, marriage and fidelity in classic Stoppard style.

Capital Stage's Associate Artist, Janis Stevens (HEDDA GABLER, AMERICAN BUFFALO, HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE, SANTALAND DIARIES) directs the ensemble featuring Jamie Kale, Luke Myers, John Pasha, Elyse Sharp (MACBETH), Megan Smith (THREE DAYS OF RAIN), Ryan Snyder, and Michael Wiles (MACBETH). The design team includes Stephen Jones (scenic), Gail Russel (costumes), and Les Solomon (lighting).

Performances for THE REAL THING will begin with three previews tonight, January 22 at 7pm and Thursday & Friday January 23 and 24 at 8pm. The production will open on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 8pm. Performances continue through February 23, 2014. Showtimes will be Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm. General tickets range from $26-$38.
