Review: THE LABORS OF LIBERTY: MSMT'S 1776 CHRONICLES THE BIRTH OF OUR NATION

Review: THE LABORS OF LIBERTY: MSMT'S 1776 CHRONICLES THE BIRTH OF OUR NATION

Maine: Carla Maria Verdino-Süllwold • June 26, 2026

What better way to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence than by mounting a stirring production of the musical 1776. That is just what Maine State Music Theatre has chosen to do – the only regional company in Maine to receive the rights at present - for the Sherman Edwards 1969 show that delivers a witty, riveting, deeply human and affecting account of our Founding Fathers. Directed by Amber Mak and featuring stunning cast of twenty-eight, MSMT‘s production is one of those artistic events audiences cannot afford to miss.

Review: WHAT BECAME OF US at Signature Theatre

Review: WHAT BECAME OF US at Signature Theatre

Washington, DC: Aidan O'Connor • June 25, 2026

How does our memory distinguish the aspects of the life we live that make up our remembered life, our conscious legacy? Is the entirety of that remembered life truthful? How does it inform our relationships? What Became of Us at Signature Theatre doesn’t necessarily answer any of these questions, instead it prompts them. Through a dyadic memory play tracking two siblings of immigrant parents, this production's deep relatability stems from a unique normalcy.

Review: FIREFLIES at Shakespeare & Company

Review: FIREFLIES at Shakespeare & Company

Boston: Marc Savitt • June 25, 2026

FIREFLIES is a delightful little feel-good piece that gives humorous, heartwarming, and character-driven romance. It avoids high-concept sci-fi or intense melodrama in favor of a comfortable, down-to-earth, good ole story. One that is told by some of the area’s well known, admired, extremely competent and capable teams of story tellers.

Review: WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Tour at Broadway In Chicago

Review: WATER FOR ELEPHANTS Tour at Broadway In Chicago

Chicago: Rachel Weinberg • June 25, 2026

The Water for Elephants tour transports audiences to the circus — and has some dazzling aerial tricks up its sleeve. Based on the popular 2006 novel by Sara Gruen, Rick Elice’s book and PigPen Theatre Co.’s score comprise a memory musical: The elderly Mr. Jankowski (Robert Tully) looks back on his days as a member of a traveling circus back in 1931.

Review: A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Marriott Theatre, Lincolnshire IL

Chicago: Tina St. Angelo • June 25, 2026

Jeff award-winning director Nick Bowling and this cast have created a work that reminds us of why Sondheim’s music is special. The orchestra under the direction of Brad Haak fills the theater with the intricate melodies of this musical. Sally Dolembo’s costumes are gorgeous and showcase the turn of the century style.

Review: THE MET OPERA ORCHESTRA MAHLER 4TH at Carnegie Hall

Review: THE MET OPERA ORCHESTRA MAHLER 4TH at Carnegie Hall

Classical Music: Peter Danish • June 25, 2026

The final Carnegie Hall appearance of the season by the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin proved to be one of the most satisfying orchestral evenings New York has heard this spring. In a program devoted almost entirely to Mahler—featuring the *Rückert-Lieder* and the Fourth Symphony with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato—the Met Orchestra demonstrated once again why it has become one of the city's most consistently rewarding ensembles.

Review: 11 DAYS at The Historic Malco Theater in Hot Springs

Arkansas: Theresa Bertram • June 25, 2026

Ret. Lt. Col. Scott Mann, a highly decorated Green Beret and Hot Springs native, recently returned home to Arkansas with his acclaimed one-man play, 11 Days: The Story of Operation Pineapple Express. Directed by Jason Cannon, the production delivered unforgettable performances at The Historic Malco Theater in Hot Springs and the Montgomery County Council for the Performing Arts in Mount Ida.

Review: SING A SONG ALL NIGHT LONG TOUR at Grand Casino Arena

Review: SING A SONG ALL NIGHT LONG TOUR at Grand Casino Arena

Minneapolis / St. Paul: Jared Fessler • June 25, 2026

I was excited to be at Grand Casino Arena in Saint Paul on June 24 for the opening U.S. show of Lionel Richie's Sing a Song All Night Long tour. With Earth, Wind & Fire opening the night, it felt like a celebration of some of the greatest music of the last several decades before Lionel even took the stage.

Review: HOW SHAKESPEARE SAVED MY LIFE at Folger Theatre

Review: HOW SHAKESPEARE SAVED MY LIFE at Folger Theatre

Washington, DC: Audrey Cahak • June 25, 2026

To quote the great bard himself, writer and actor Jacob Ming-Trent: “Congregation, that was a lot.” Facilitated by Folger Theatre and Red Bull Theater, Ming-Trent’s one-act, one-man show How Shakespeare Saved My Life was a lot of energy, a lot of testimony, and a lot of reckoning.

Review: THE RISE & FALL OF LITTLE VOICE at Backyard Renaissance

Review: THE RISE & FALL OF LITTLE VOICE at Backyard Renaissance

San Diego: ErinMarie Reiter • June 25, 2026

Backyard Renaissance Theatre's San Diego premiere of Jim Cartwright's “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice” is a curious blend of broad comedy and intimate drama. Anthony Methvin's production is elevated by a remarkable cast that finds genuine humanity beneath the script's extremes.

Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at West Otago Community Centre Tapanui

Review: JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR at West Otago Community Centre Tapanui

New Zealand: Monica Moore • June 25, 2026

Jesus Christ Superstar has returned to Tapanui for the first time in 26 years, and the West Otago Theatrical Society (WOTS) has marked the occasion with a poignant nod to its own history. The production brings back key figures from the 2000 season, including Jeff Rea—who played Jesus then and now shares musical direction with Nicola Russell—and dancer Wendy Cook, who performed at age 16 and now returns to the stage alongside her two children. It is a lovely bit of continuity for this tight-knit community.
