Mainstage at Upper Darby Summer Stage Sets NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT

Upper Darby Summer Stage proudly presents its crown jewel of the 41st season, the mainstage production, "Nice Work If You Can Get It" on July 29, 30 and August 5, 6 at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

Recently on Broadway starring Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara, this high-stepping musical recalls the golden age of American musicals, complete with extravagant dance numbers, glittering Broadway costumes and a treasure trove of George and Ira Gershwin's most beloved songs.

Performances will take place on July 29, 30 and August 5, 6 at 7:30 p.m. with one matinee performance on August 6 at 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $12-16 and may be purchased online at www.udpac.org or by calling the box office: 610.622.1189. All shows take place at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center, 601 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill, PA. The facility is wheelchair accessible and parking is free. The show runs approximately two and a half hours with intermission and is recommended for ages eight and up.

This sparkling tale combines laughter, romance and Broadway magic for an evening bursting with girls, glamour and the glorious songs of the Gershwin's including "But Not For Me," "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "I've Got a Crush on You" and "Someone to Watch Over Me."

The champagne is flowing and the gin is fizzing with a cast of outrageous characters who gather in New York City to celebrate the wedding of wealthy playboy whose world is suddenly turned upside down by bootleggers, rumrunners and gold diggers!

Director Brian Walsh holds a degree in theater from Kutztown University and a Masters in Education from Cabrini College. Brian currently teaches kindergarten at The Chester Charter School for the Arts and has been a member of the Summer Stage community for the past 19 summers. Brian has audience favorites including Junie B. Jones, Beauty and the Beast Jr, Narnia, and many others. Other directing credits include venues such as The Players Club of Swarthmore, Marple Newtown High School, and Holy Child Academy. When not directing Brian performs, most recently with Limelight Performing Arts Center and other companies including Players Club of Swarthmore, Candlelight Dinner Theatre and The Ritz Theater Company.

Walsh said, "The show teaches that you can find the love no matter the situation, even if you think it may not be right. Society can create a picture of what the world should be, but you should create the picture for yourself."

He added, "This show is not like any other Gershwin show. It's hilarious, upbeat and fun for everyone - The show truly is a slice a life from the 1920s!"

Upper Darby Summer Stage's mainstage program offers young adults up to the age of 28 the opportunity to collaborate in a professional atmosphere while presenting audiences with top-notch productions that include professional level sets, lighting, costumes and are accompanied by a live orchestra.
