'Saturday' sits at the heart of his debut album Hypersonic Missiles, an ode to the misery of an excruciatingly slow working week, a bank account that remains resolutely empty, a landlord not returning calls on a problematic flat, and the minor solace of the weekend forever just out of reach. It's a typically sobering, wholly relatable lyrical lament that Sam has quickly become renowned for telling. Today, The National has released Juicy Sonic Magic via Americanmary.com, a 10-minute mini-documentary in conjunction with their Black Friday Record Store Release of the three-cassette box set entitled The National: Juicy Sonic Magic, Live in Berkeley, September 24-25, 2018. Directed by David DuBois, the film tells the story of late, great concert taper Mike “The Mike” Millard and an homage to his work that was undertaken by archivist and producer Erik Flannigan, who attempted to recreate the legendary taper's methods by using the same vintage cassette deck and microphones Millard employed in the '70s to record The National at two Greek Theatre concerts last year. Watch the minidoc below and find a record store near you at recordstoreday.com.

Today, contemporary folk luminary Rhiannon Giddens and 11-time Grammy Award-winning acclaimed songwriter and producer Daniel Lanois, alongside his band Heavy Sun, have released newly reimagined tracks from  The Music of Red Dead Redemption 2:  Original Soundtrack as Amazon Originals. John Prine's new acoustic video for his song “Paradise,” featuring special guest Kelsey Waldon, premiered yesterday at Sounds Like Nashville. Nashville-based storyteller Jeremy Iveyhas released his debut album The Dream and the Dreamer today. Ivey has operated in the background for years, initially performing in bands like Secret Handshake and country-soul group Buffalo Clover with his wife, celebrated country-rock luminary Margo Price. John Prine won two awards at last night's Americana Music Association Honors & Awards: Album of the Year (The Tree of Forgiveness) and Song of the Year (“Summer's End” written by Prine and Pat McLaughlin). Inspired by Dylan's own restless spirit, Scorsese performs some breathtaking sleight of hand, summoning nostalgic fantasists, boxers, magicians, starlets and testifiers of all stripes, and exploding the boundaries of what makes a conventional documentary.
