Marin Shakespeare Company celebrates the 450th Anniversary of Will Shakespeare's birth (April 23, 2014) with an announcement of a special gift for Bay Area Shakespeare fans and the theater going community. Thanks to a special 25th Silver Season gift from an anonymous donor, when audiences attend any Marin Shakespeare Company performance of 'As You Like It' this summer, all tickets are 'Pay As You Like It." Christopher Sieber Joins Cast of MATILDA Tonight After Delays from Injury

Christopher Sieber will officially make his debut as the tyrant Miss Trunchbull in Broadway's Matilda the Musical tonight, April 18. Sieber was previously scheduled to begin performances in March, but had to delay after he fractured a bone in his hand during rehearsals. (more...)

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company to Launch 20th SHAKESPEARE AT FENWAY Season, 9/19

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) will celebrate its 20th year serving the community in 2015. It will kick off its anniversary season on September 19, 2014, with a once-in-a-lifetime gift to the City of Boston - Shakespeare at Fenway. Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) along with Chicago's civic and cultural leaders celebrate William Shakespeare's 450th Birthday with the premiere of 'Our City, Our Shakespeare,' a documentary exploring Shakespeare's enduring presence in Chicago, featuring Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Art Institute of Chicago, Joffrey Ballet, among others. Produced by Emmy award-winning HMS Media, the program premieres May 1 at 8:00 p.m. on WTTW Channel 11. Shakespeare's 450th birthday on April 23 begins the internationally recognized Shakespeare Quadricentennial Celebration through 2016, marking 400 years of Shakespeare's legacy since his death in 1616. On this occasion, Chicago's cultural community heralds the prolific poet and playwright's lasting impact on our lives-through our everyday speech and in cultural institutions, schools and neighborhoods across the city. Jeffrey Herrmann Named New Managing Director of Seattle Repertory Theatre

Berkeley Repertory Theatre continues the second half of its season with Tribes, a sophisticated and moving family drama by celebrated British playwright Nina Raine. Her profound and powerful new play became an award-winning hit in London and New York. Now renowned director Jonathan Moscone brings it to Berkeley Rep this April for its Bay Area premiere. Tribes follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by Deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and to be heard. Playing out in words, sign language, and sometimes mesmerizing silence, this penetrating drama examines familial love, notions of belonging, and the intersections of communication. Today, we're featuring F. Murray Abraham circa 1982. Abraham has focused on stage work throughout his career, giving notable performances as Pozzo in Mike Nichols's production of Waiting for Godot, Malvolio in Twelfth Night for the New York Shakespeare Festival, and Shylock in The Merchant of Venice for the Off Broadway Theatre for a New Audience (TFANA) in March 2007, which was performed at the Duke Theatre in New York and also at The Swan Theatre, part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. He reprised this role in February 2011, when he replaced Al Pacino in the Public Theater's production. In the 1997/98 Broadway season he starred in the new chamber musical Triumph of Love opposite Betty Buckley, based on Marivaux's classic comedy. (more...)
