FlecHaus release their fourth new single 'Lie To Me' on Friday, September 8. The Austin-based quintet are: Megan Flechaus, lead vocals/rhythm guitar; Kenzie Slottow, flute; Dominick Chaillot, bass; Nathan Smith, drums; and Sara Louise, backing vocals. On 'Lie To Me,' the band is joined by Benjamin Levy on fiddle, who substitutes for flutist Kenzie Slottow.

FlecHaus release their third new single 'Pitter Patter' on Friday, July 28. The Austin-based quintet are: Megan Flechaus, lead vocals/rhythm guitar; Kenzie Slottow, flute; Dominick Chaillot, bass; Nathan Smith, drums; and Sara Louise, backing vocals.

Megan Flechaus has been called 'Austin's Rising Star' by Indie Pulse Music magazine (complete interview here). Professor Johnny P's Blogspot cited Megan's 'strong, expressive voice which is a delight to hear' in a stellar review of her aforementioned 2014 album, New.  Megan is a jazz, blues, and folk-influenced singer-songwriter who began writing and playing music when she was fifteen years old.

Outer Loop was recorded at The Compound, mastered by Chris Kress, and recorded, mixed, and produced by Benjamin Alan Levy, all Austin-based. It's available on CD Baby as is Megan Flechaus' previous album, New.

'It Helps to Sing About It' returns to the Metropolitan Room after an enthusiastic reception last September. Writing for Cabaret Scenes, Randolph E. Eigenbrode called it 'CLOSER THAN EVER for the new millennium--full of musical brio and dizzying honesty.'

'It Helps to Sing About It' is a musical revue featuring music by esteemed lyric/composer team Dan Kael and Binyumen ('Ben') Schaechter. Off- Broadway credits include 'That's Life!' (Outer Critics Circle Award nomination) and 'Pets!' (Dramatic Publishing). Their award-winning one-act musical 'Goodbye Forever' (libretto by Nancy Golladay) has been produced in New York and Chicago.

When a show at the Metropolitan Room starts over thirty minutes late because the staff is frantically trying to find chairs and room for the better part of New York's cabaret community, you know you're in store for something truly special. And unless there's a chair thief on the loose in Flatiron who doesn't like Broadway, someone clearly oversold this show and/or lost track of comps; this was extremely vexing with a heat advisory in effect. Still, the mood was festive in anticipation of Jeff Harnar's 1959 Broadway Songbook, the 12th installment in Stephen Hanks' impressive (and increasingly well-known) New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits series. Harnar's show premiered 25 years ago at the Algonquin's Oak Room. Two years later, PBS filmed the collaboration with musical director Alex Rybeck, whose arrangements honor the original compositions but reimagine them in sometimes astonishing ways, making them genuinely creative acts.

The Triad will be the setting for librettist/lyricist Michael Colby's 65th Birthday bash on Sunday, October 30th at 7pm, presented by his colleague and pal, Sandi Durell, publisher and editor of entertainment site, TheaterPizzazz.com.

1959 was a very good year for Jeff Harnar. It was the year the future cabaret star was born, but he couldn't know then that 1959 would also provide him with the material for what would eventually become one of his greatest cabaret performances. In 1991, for his second major engagement as a cabaret artist, Harnar made his debut at the famed Oak Room at the Algonquin with a show called THE 1959 BROADWAY SONGBOOK, featuring tunes from 21 musicals (including West Side Story, Gypsy, Fiorello, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, Li'l Abner, and Flower Drum Song), that either opened or were still running that year. Directed by Sara Louise Lazarus with musical direction from pianist Alex Rybeck, Harnar's show strung together iconic Broadway songs into an imaginary musical with commentaries on love, marriage and politics, complete with an overture, entr'acte, intermission, and curtain call. The show and Harnar's performance (which would be filmed for a PBS special in 1993) drew raves from the New York entertainment press.

After BroadwayWorld launched its New York Cabaret Awards in 2012, the cabaret section's editors realized that the selected categories and the popular vote nature of the election didn't adequately recognize some great performances and shows for that particular year. So in 2013, BWW added "Editor's Choice Awards" to the mix to not only reward special performances but also to acknowledge people who have helped grow cabaret and foster the spirit of the art form. This year, BWW New York Cabaret Editor Stephen Hanks and his reviewing staff-including Alix Cohen, David Clarke, Billie Roe, Rembert Block, and John Hoglund-selected seven stars of cabaret for this special honor. Now that the Awards for 2015 performances and shows are official, we wanted to tell you a bit about this year's "Editor's Choice Award" winners and offer them a chance to thank the New York cabaret community.
