Peter Schickele to Perform '50 YEARS OF P.D.Q. BACH' at The Colonial Theatre, 7/26

Musical Humorist Peter Schickele will perform 50 Years of P.D.Q. Bach: A Triumph of Incompetence at The Colonial Theatre on July 26 at 8pm. It's been 50 years since Professor Peter Schickele released P.D.Q. Bach on an unsuspecting musical public. And it's been 80 years since the professor's mother released the professor on an society ill-prepared for such singular genius. And now, because everyone loves a birthday, Professor Schickele has reached back across the decades to explore the damp vaults and dusty attics of Leipzig to once again celebrate the twenty-first child (out of twenty) of the great J.S. Bach. This special, once in a half-century, musical extravaganza will feature the creme de la creme of history's most justifiably neglected composer. (more...)

The Classical Recording Foundation (CRF) is pleased to announce the 2013 winners of its twelfth annual Classical Recording Foundation Awards. Four prizes will be presented at the Foundation's Annual Awards Concert and Benefit at 7:30pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. The event will feature CRF Young Artist of the Year pianist Roman Rabinovich performing selections from his CD Ballets Russes (Orchid; March 2013), pianist Laura Leon performing works by CRF Composer of the Year Peter Schickele's album The Music of Peter Schickele, Samuel Sanders Collaborative Artists Award winners Hsin-Yun Huang and Sarah Rothenberg in selections from their recording Viola Viola (Bridge; November 2012); andClassical Recording Foundation Award winner, cellist Sophie Shao, performing selections from her upcoming double-CD set of J.S. Carol Wincenc, the Grammy-nominated artist who is one of the most acclaimed and respected flutists performing today, marks her 25th anniversary as a member of the faculty of The Juilliard School in the 2013-14 season. She is celebrating the milestone with a concert at Juilliard that represents her most cherished facets of artistic life: new music, with the world premiere of a work written for her, and the U.S. and New York premieres of works by Alfred Schnittke and Hans Werner Henze; collaboration with her esteemed colleagues, with every work on the program requiring at least two guest artists; and, of course, teaching some of the best young flutists in the world who pass through Juilliard, with seven of her Juilliard students joining her on the program.
