Looking to take a trip to depression-era Harlem, where the clubs are filled with blues singers and everyone has a dream? Look no further than The Guthrie’s newest production.

Barrington Stage Company has announced its 2023 season, that will feature two major musical revivals, two world premiere plays, and two modern classic play revivals. The season kicks off with Cabaret, playing June 14-July 8 on the Boyd-Quinson Stage.

The Guthrie Theater today announced the cast and creative team for Blues for an Alabama Sky by Pearl Cleage, directed by Nicole A. Watson. Blues for an Alabama Sky will play January 28 – March 12, 2023, on the Wurtele Thrust Stage.

Celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with the teen artists of the Alliance Theatre's Palefsky Collision Project as they reimagine their 2022 summer performance Everybody Has a Heartache: What We Don't Know inspired by “Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings” by Joy Harjo, through the lens of letters to Dr. King. 

Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will bring in the New Year with its production of “Flyin' West” by Pearl Cleage. WBTT had previously presented this show as a staged play reading in the summer of 2018 as part of the national Project1VOICE program, during which Black theatres around the country present the same play on the same day.

McCarter has announced the addition of Blues For An Alabama Sky by Pearl Cleage to its 2022-2023 season.  The bold, character drama is directed by Nicole A. Watson, McCarter Associate Artistic Director, in collaboration with the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. Performances at McCarter Theatre Center begin May 6th running through May 28th.

The play marks the UK debut of Samira Wiley, alongside a cast that includes Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, Osy Ikhile, Sule Rimi and Giles Terera. So what did the critics think?

Premiere Stages at Kean University will present the premiere production of Certain Aspects of Conflict in the Negro Family by TyLie Shider, the recepient of the 2021/22 Liberty Live Commission, on October 13-23 under the tent at Kean University's Liberty Hall Museum (1003 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.).

PlayMakers Repertory Company proudly presents “Blues for an Alabama Sky,” a play by Pearl Cleage. The production runs from September 7 to September 25 and is directed by Valerie Curtis-Newton.

Black Theatre Troupe of Upstate NY (BTTUNY) has announced its upcoming and first production of the 2022-2023 season: FLYIN' WEST, by Pearl Cleage, directed by Jean-Remy Monnay.

After 21 years as the Alliance Theatre’s Jennings Hertz Artistic Director, Susan V. Booth will leave her role at the Alliance to join Chicago’s Goodman Theatre as Artistic Director.  Booth will finish her tenure by co-directing the regional premiere of the acclaimed play, Everybody, which begins previews September 2.

The Dramatists Guild of America has announced further recipients for their 2022 Awards. The Awards for both 2021 and 2022 recipients will be presented at Joe’s Pub on Monday, July 25, 2022.

Funded by The Black Seed, the African-American Shakespeare Company & The CRAFT Institute have come together to form the African Diasporic Network that will debut Echoes of Us: Now and Always July 15-17 at the Marines Memorial Theatre. 

Nineteen diverse students from across metro Atlanta – and beyond -- will come together at the Alliance Theatre for the 21st Palefsky Collision Project. For the first time, the ensemble of young actors includes national artists joining the group from New Haven, CT and Boston, MA.
