The Boston One-Minute Play Festival (#1MPF) returns with a twist: the sixth annual festival will celebrate the works of all women-identified playwrights and directors, as part of 1MPF's National Women's Initiative. Boston joins New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, South Florida, and other cities including an all women-identified cohort of artists this season. The aim of this program is to get a cohort of women-identified theatremakers in the room, uphold the important themes, ideas, conversations, and dialogues that bubble up to the surface, and hold space for valuable community conversations. The South Orange Performing Arts Center is thrilled to announce a new partnership with American Theater Group, a professional member theatre of the New Jersey Theatre Alliance. The company, headed by Producing Artistic Director James Vagias, will begin presenting staged readings in the SOPAC Loft in January, 2017 and the following year will produce at least two fully-staged productions on the mainstage. Actor/singer Cheyenne Jackson first appeared on Broadway with Sutton Foster in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Needless to say, he caused a sensation and has since made the TV screen sizzle with his appearances in Glee and American Horror Story. He will be making a concert appearance on December 15 and 17/18 in four Holiday shows with the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles. (GMCLA) Jackson spoke briefly with me about this concert and comments on various points of his illustrious career thus far. As far as his personal life goes, Jackson is openly gay, married to Jason Landau, and they just became the parents of two children. (more...)
