Dixon Place, Ellie Covan, founder and artistic director, proudly announces SUPPER AT THE SALON, a special evening of dinner and entertainment which will take place on the mainstage theater at Dixon Place on Monday, September 15th, with cocktails beginning in the lounge at 6:30 PM. The evening will include performances by Stew (Passing Strange), Nancy Giles ('CBS Sunday Morning'), Broadway's Ted Keegan (Phantom of the Opera, Cyrano, Camelot), award-winning aerial troupe LAVA, and more to be announced, and will be hosted by Bindlestiff Family Cirkus founder, Keith Nelson. Also that evening, four honorees will receive the iconic Dixon Place mini chair award for their contributions to the arts and support of Dixon Place: award winning actor-writer Peggy Shaw; The Jerome Foundation, celebrating its 50th Anniversary; Dixon Place Board member Eric Jensen, and theater supporter Yoshiko Kakuga. Alley Theatre Celebrates Groundbreaking on New Renovation

The Alley Theatre, one of the nation's leading nonprofit theatre companies and housed in one of Houston's most iconic buildings, celebrated the groundbreaking today for the first extensive renovation of its facilities since its opening in 1968 as part of its $73 million capital campaign. Having raised $47.5 million in the "Extended Engagement" campaign, the theatre intends to raise a total of $56.5 million by August 2015 to complete the first two phases of the campaign, Artistic Enhancement and Renovation. This will allow the theatre to have the building costs secured, before the Alley Theatre begins its inaugural season back in its downtown home. (more...)

New 52nd Street Project to Present WHAT'S MY LINE: THE PROFESSIONAL PLAYS, 7/18-20

The 52nd Street Project makes a difference in the lives of Hell's Kitchen (Clinton) kids by pairing them with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. For its cornerstone acting program, the One-on-One series takes a group of ten Project kids out of town to a country retreat for a week in the summer. Each child is assigned a playwright who is charged to write a musical specifically for that child. The shows are rehearsed over the course of the week and performed informally for the community in the retreat setting. Upon returning to Manhattan, the plays are performed at the Project's Five Angels Theater (789 Tenth Avenue, 2nd floor, NYC), supported by professional designers and crews who volunteer their services. The 52nd Street Project makes a difference in the lives of countless Hell's Kitchen (Clinton) kids by pairing them with theater professionals who mentor them through the creation of original theater. Perhaps the most poignant presentations made by The 52nd Street Project are those in its semi-annual Playmaking series, which features the Project's youngest Hell's Kitchen mentees-ten year-olds who have just begun their theatrical education-writing for accomplished professional actors and director-dramaturgs, and revealing their work to a public audience for the first time. Edie Falco and other accomplished actors, working with directors including Felix Solis and James Yaegashi, will perform in Out on a Limb: Plays that Branch Out, the Project's newest Playmaking show.
