Johanna Day, Will Brill, Fran Kranz & More Join Cast of YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU Broadway Revival

Producers of the upcoming Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman's Pulitzer Prize-winning play You Can't Take It With You announce more cast members for the production which begins rehearsals on Monday, July 21st. The cast will include: Will Brill (Act One) as Ed Carmichael, Fran Kranz (Death of a Salesman) as Tony Kirby, Johanna Day (August: Osage County) as Mrs. Kirby, Nick Corley (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), Austin Durant (War Horse) and Joe Tapper (Witnessed By The World, 59 E 59) as the three G-Men as well as Barrett Doss, Ned Noyes, Pippa Pearthree as understudies. The complete and final cast list will be announced next week. (more...)

(UMC) continues its 2014 developmental reading series at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center with a special presentation of I Had a Ball, the 1964 Coney Island musical comedy with a book by Tony Award winner Jerome Chodorov (Wonderful Town) and a score by Stan Freeman & Jack Lawrence. The reading, directed by Ben West (Unsung Carolyn Leigh, The Fig Leaves Are Falling, Make Mine Manhattan), will be held Thursday, July 24 at 2:30 PM in the Bruno Walter Auditorium. (more...)

New York Stage and Film and Vassar College, this summer celebrating the 30th year of their Powerhouse Theater collaboration, announced that Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Kyra Sedgwick will lead the cast of Academy Award and Tony Award winner John Patrick Shanley's new play The Danish Widow, which will premiere July 16-27, 2014 at Hallie Flanagan-Davis Powerhouse Theater at Vassar College. Shanley also directs the cast which also includes multitalented Broadway vets Craig Bierko and Matt McGrath, as well as stage and screen actress Annika Boras. (more...)

Yesterday Julianne Moore hosted an afternoon tea in honor of Tony nominee LaTanya Richardson Jackson, currently starring as Lena Younger in A RAISIN IN THE SUN. Held at Lady Mendl's at the Inn at Irving Place, an impressive group of women from theatre, film and television, including LaTanya's fellow Tony nominated costars Sophie Okonedo and Anika Noni Rose, gathered to salute LaTanya. Although she was unable to attend, First Lady Michelle Obama did send a note which was read aloud by Julianne Moore after Ms. Moore made a toast to LaTanya. Samuel L. Jackson and Bart Freundlich crashed the party to enjoy the afternoon with their wives. (more...)

Robert Harling's screenplay to the iconic film THE FIRST WIVES CLUB will come alive in New York on July 7th, 2014 at 8pm for a one night-only benefit reading in the Mainstage Theater (416 West 42nd Street), directed by Trip Cullman and featuring an all-star cast. All proceeds will benefit The Actors Fund's Phyllis Newman Women's Health Initiative, which provides 'a safety net and a place to turn when women in the creative community are faced with critical health concerns.'
