Born in Moscow in 1944, Alexei Lubimov is described as 'one of the most strikingly original musicians performing today, widely known for his dual passion and aptitude for the music of the Baroque (especially performed on early instruments), and of the 20th century.'

The Merce Cunningham Trust today announced that former Merce Cunningham Dance Company (MCDC) members Susana Hayman-Chaffey, Rashaun Mitchell, Sandra Neels, and Susan Quinn are the first recipients of the Cunningham Fellowship, a new program to support the teaching, revival, and performance of Cunningham works. Supervised by former MCDC Director of Choreography and Merce Cunningham Trustee Robert Swinston, each Fellow will conduct a multi-week repertory workshop to restage a Cunningham dance for pre-professional students. The Trust has also announced that it has named dance writer and Mondays with Merce producer Nancy Dalva Scholar-in-Residence, to help facilitate the ongoing study of Merce Cunningham and his work.

Park Avenue Armory announced today that Citi Private Bank will act as premier corporate sponsor in support of the Armory's 2012 and 2013 seasons. Now in its second full season of cultural programming, comprising productions of visual art, dance, and music, the Armory is dedicated to presenting works that cannot be realized in traditional museums and performance halls.

The San Francisco Symphony and Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas will be making their presence known in New York City this month with four concerts March 27-30 at Carnegie Hall as part of the American Mavericks celebration, a co-presentation by the Symphony and Carnegie Hall. While they are in New York, WNET's THIRTEEN will screen two PBS Great Performances programs on March 29 & 30 of concert events led by Michael Tilson Thomas: The Thomashefskys: Music & Memories of a Life in the Yiddish Theater, and San Francisco Symphony at 100, including the Symphony's Centennial Season gala concert featuring Itzhak Perlman and Lang Lang.

"Realm Variations," was commissioned by the San Francisco Symphony's 2012 American Mavericks Festival.

The production of Europera 3 & 4 originally scheduled for March 7-10, 2012 at Cornish College of the Arts has been postponed until a TBD date this Fall 2012.

S? Percussion is a modern performance ensemble. After a sold-out performance at McCullough Theatre in 2010, they return to Texas Performing Arts, along with guest composer Cenk Ergün, violist Beth Meyers, and students from the Butler School of Music, to present the Austin premiere of a new program commemorating the life and work of composer John Cage in his 100th birthday year.

Composer, filmmaker, director and solo performer Mikel Rouse announces the May 1, 2012 release of his first double album, Boost|False Doors (Exit Music 1015-1016), through iTunes and all major retailers. Boost|False Doors will be available via iTunes, Amazon, Bandcamp, CD Baby, CD Connection and CD Universe and on disc through All Major Retail Stores and through Exit Music Recordings on May 1. The Hunter College Art Galleries will present Notations: The Cage Effect Today, on view through April 21, 2012. As 2012 marks the centennial of John Cage's birth, this exhibition commemorates the widespread effect of the artist's six decades of assiduous and relentless inventive creation on subsequent generations of artists.

The Living Theatre continues its 65th year with the world premiere of Judith Malina's THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD -- with performances to conclude at The Living Theatre (21 Clinton Street) on Saturday, February 25. Judith Malina directs.

Conductor Reinbert de Leeuw returns to Walt Disney Concert Hall to lead the LA Phil New Music Group in a concert focused on music by leading European minimalist, Dutch composer Louis Andriessen, Tuesday, February 28, at 8 pm. The concert is the third event in the LA Phil's 2011/12 Green Umbrella series.

La MaMa presents the World Premiere of YOU, MY MOTHER, a production by the Obie Award-winning performance group Two-Headed Calf. YOU, MY MOTHER is an opera project in two parts, created by composer Brendan Connelly and playwright Karinne Keithley Syers, Obie Award-winning composer Rick Burkhardt and playwright Kristen Kosmas, directed by Brooke O'Harra, with music performed by Yarn/Wire + Strings.
