Today, May 21st, the GI Film Festival San Diego closes the multi-day military event with documentaries that explore many themes and leave festival-goers wanting more. Kicking off the final day of film screenings will be the World Premiere of the documentary feature “Nation’s Promise” at 12 noon, and preceded by “Blind Ambition: The Wop May Story.” A Documentary Block will follow at 2:15 p.m. with three documentary shorts that explore resiliency, healing and forgiveness, including “Veterans Journey Home: On Black Mountain,” “Down on the Ranch,” and “The Monument of Tolerance.”

While details on DeBose's character are currently under wraps, she will appear in the new season in a recurring guest role. She joins returning cast members Evan Rachel Wood, Emmy winner Thandiwe Newton, Ed Harris, Jeffrey Wright, Tessa Thompson, Luke Hemsworth, Aaron Paul and Angela Sarafyan.

 The Acting Company has announced the Actors’ Career Stability Initiative program for the 2022-23 season. With support from the Booth Ferris Foundation, all actors who accept a casting offer to join the 2022-23 national touring season and have a minimum of $10,000 in student loan debt will be eligible to apply for student loan debt relief.

Organizers of the GI Film Festival San Diego are thrilled to announce a diverse film lineup for its annual event happening May 17-21, 2022 at the Museum of Photographic Arts (MOPA) in Balboa Park. The film festival is dedicated to presenting films and events for, by and about military and veterans, and is set to return to in-person screenings for the first time since 2019. Contra Costa Civic Theatre concludes its live, in-person Main Stage season with the musical Crowns by Regina Taylor, adapted from the book “Crowns: Portraits of Black Women in Church Hats” by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Directed by Kimberly Ridgeway, with music direction by Branice McKenzie and choreography by Jennifer Frazier, Crowns plays for 15 performances from April 15-May 15.

Inspired by David Blight’s Pulitzer Prize winning biography, “Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom” and executive produced by scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the HBO documentary Frederick Douglas: In Five Speeches brings to life the words of our country’s most famous anti-slavery activist.

Starring alongside Robert Pattinson (“Tenet,” “The Lighthouse”) as Gotham’s famous and infamous cast of characters are Zoë Kravitz (“Big Little Lies,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald”); Paul Dano (“Love & Mercy,” “12 Years a Slave”); and Colin Farrell (“The Gentlemen,” “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”) as the Penguin.
