Alliance Theatre PALEFSKY COLLISION PROJECT Performances Begin This Week!

The Alliance Theatre has assembled a diverse group of 20 students from metro Atlanta for the 18th Palefsky Collision Project, an annual program that gives high-school students a platform to tackle important social issues.  Guided by the Alliance's Mellon Playwright in Residence Pearl Cleage, director Patrick McColery, and assistant director Rodney Williams, participants are encouraged to find and claim their own voices within a judgment free zone of creativity and community. This innovative program challenges metro Atlanta teens to 'collide' with a classic text and make it their own.  This year's ensemble will explore George Orwell's classic text, 1984, and ultimately create their own unique showcase exploring the prevalent themes inspired by this story.

Future IDs at Alcatraz, a yearlong project, exhibition, and series of monthly public programs on view in the New Industries Building on Alcatraz Island until October 2019, brings attention to criminal justice reform efforts and second chances. The exhibition encourages the viewer to reevaluate ideas about rehabilitation, reentry, and reintegration, which features ID inspired artwork created by individuals who have a conviction history as they conceive and develop a vision for a future self.

Pear Theatre's 2019-20 season opens in August with 'An Ideal Husband,' a searing comedy of virtue and moral inflexibility. Directed by Jenny Hollingworth, 'An Ideal Husband' previews on August 22, with press and Opening Night on Friday, August 23, followed by a champagne gala. The show runs Thursdays through Sundays through September 15. All performances are held at the Pear Theatre, 1110 La Avenida St., Mountain View.
