by Gil Kaan - Apr 1, 2016

The Actors' Gang's Artistic Director Tim Robbins deftly directs his extremely talented cast as they fluidly impart the Orwellian tale of total Big Brother domination in ORWELL'S 1984. Originally viewed as sci-fi when written back in 1949, ORWELL'S 1984 complements as a fitting addition to The Actors' Gang's current Season of Justice. Michael Gene Sullivan has ever so smartly adapted George Orwell's novel into the present 21st century. (more...)

BWW REVIEW: What's Scarier than George Orwell's 1984? Politics in 2016.BWW REVIEW: What's Scarier than George Orwell's 1984? Politics in 2016.
by Jan Nargi - Feb 26, 2016

The horrific future depicted in George Orwell's cautionary tale '1984' feels that much more frightening in 2016 because so much of the oligarchical world predicted by the visionary author in his dystopian 1949 novel has come to fruition. The power gap between the haves and the have-nots is alarming. Politicians use doublethink to twist hypocrisies into mind-numbing (and brainwashing) campaign slogans. Three-second sound bites and 140-character tweets are the newspeak that distills thought into easily regurgitated propaganda. (more...)

STAGE TUBE: Comedian John Cleese Says 'Political Correctness Can Lead to an Orwellian Nightmare'STAGE TUBE: Comedian John Cleese Says 'Political Correctness Can Lead to an Orwellian Nightmare'
by Stage Tube - Feb 3, 2016

In a video published on Big Think, Comedian John Cleese said, 'I'm offended every day. For example, the British newspapers every day offend me with their laziness, their nastiness, and their inaccuracy, but I'm not going to expect someone to stop that happening; I just simply speak out about it.'  He goes on to say, 'And the whole point about humor, the whole point about comedy, and believe you me I thought about this, is that all comedy is critical. Even if you make a very inclusive joke like how would you make God laugh? Answer: Tell him your plans. Now that's about the human condition; it's not excluding anyone.' (more...)
