The Mama Foundation for the Arts presents WE ARE!, an original family musical about and starring the acclaimed Gospel for Teens Choir. Conceived and written by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro (the creators of MAMA, I WANT TO SING), and directed by Mr. Wydro, WE ARE! will be performed (in repertory with other Mama Foundation musicals) at The Dempsey Theater in Harlem (127 W. 127 St.) this Fall on the following dates: Saturdays, October 11 at 2 pm, Saturday, October 25 at 2 pm, and Saturday, November 8 at 2 pm. Hodges & Hodges grooved their way down to the Orpheum Theatre to dance the night away at MOTOWN the Musical! The hit record company defined the sound of the sixties and seventies, breaking down racial barriers with a signature soul/pop sound that cut across the black/white divide at a time when segregation was still the law of the land. Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Jackson 5, Stevie Wonder and the Temptations were just a few of the artists that made up the hit parade at Motown. (more...)

ALIVE! Is playing in repertoire with the Harlem Musical Theatre Series. Conceived and written by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, and directed by Mr. Wydro. 'Real people, telling real stories!' The cast of ALIVE! is comprised of everyday, 'ordinary' citizens from all walks of life; people with amazing talent, who never realized their desire to perform live. Each cast member now taking center stage, proves that it's never too late to live a dream. The Mama Foundation for the Arts proudly announces that two new musicals will open Off-Broadway this fall in Harlem: WE ARE!, an original musical about and starring the acclaimed Gospel for Teens Choir (first seen in an Emmy Award-Winning '60 Minutes' story), and ALIVE!, an original musical featuring a full company of performers who are age 55 and over. Both WE ARE! and ALIVE!, conceived, written and directed by Vy Higginsen and Ken Wydro, will join MAMA, I WANT TO SING: THE NEXT GENERATION and SING HARLEM SING in Repertory at The Dempsey Theater in Harlem (127 W. 127 St.). Performances for ALIVE! begin on Saturday, October 5th; performances for WE ARE! begin Saturday, October 12th. MAMA . . . will join the two new musicals in rep beginning Saturday, October 19th, and SING, HARLEM, SING will be performed on Saturday, November 16th.
