In January 2016, the Dogs of Desire, the Albany Symphony's rock-inspired new music ensemble, and Music Director David Alan Miller will perform and record a concert of American composer David Mallamud's most successful commissions for the ensemble over the past ten years, including his homage to Parisian music hall culture, Last Call at the Folies Bergere, the Glam-Metal Opera, Lizardman, (text by Broadway lyricist Michael Cooper) Victorian Parlor Songs, a salsa-drenched Latin Daytime Soap Opera, (text by Aaron Jafferis), and an Irish-inspired piece Immram. Both the public concert and private recording session will take place at Skidmore College's Zankel Hall in Saratoga Springs, NY. (more...)

Midtown Direct Rep (MDR) continues its 2015-16 Theater in the Loft series at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) with a staged reading of Evanston: A Rare Comedy, written by Michael Yates Crowley. This reading, directed by Michael Rau, will be performed for one night only on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 7pm at SOPAC (One Sopac Way, South Orange, NJ, 07079). On November 18th and 19th at 7pm in New York City, Tony Award-nominated singer & actress Melissa Errico will return to Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette St.) in "Sing The Silence,' an entirely new, autobiographical cabaret show co-written with Adam Gopnik (The New Yorker) about how one singer's descent into 100 days of silence -- total silence -- compelled her towards an inventory of a lifetime's experience, on and off the stage. The show will include songs by women songwriters such as Georgia Stitt, Marcy Heisler, Jonathan Brooke, Susan Werner, Patricia Barber, Laura Nyro, Joni Mitchell and Dorothy Parker, as well as the title song written for Errico by Gopnik and Scott Frankel; and the New York debut of music by Jeanine Tesori.
