    The 2014/15 season will begin with The Foreigner (October 26 - November 9), an uproariously funny adventure set in a rural Georgia fishing lodge that follows a shy man who adopts a persona as a non-English-speaking foreigner. We continue with Fiddler on the Roof (December 2 - 21), the Tony Award-winning classic musical that follows dairyman Tevye as he fights to maintain his family and heritage. Next up in The Wiz (January 13 - February 1), the spirited, rock gospel and soul Tony Award-winning musical based on the classic tale The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - perfect for the entire family. Then join us for Glengarry Glen Ross (February 8 - 22), David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece about a group of tough-talking Chicago real estate agents who will do anything to close a deal. Our incredible season ends with a four-week run of the Tony Award-winning phenomenon Les Miserables (March 10 - April 5), an epic and inspiring production not to be missed! (more...)

    Merman's Apprentice, a new musical fable with Book and Lyrics by Stephen Cole (Inventing Mary Martin, After the Fair, The Night of the Hunter, The Road to Qatar!) and Music by David Evans (Birds of Paradise, Children's Letters to God) has been chosen to be the opening show as part of London's Landor Theatre's 'From Page to Stage Festival' today, February 11th and 12th at 7:30pm.     Today in 1984, The Rink opend at the Martin Beck Theatre (now the Al Hirschfeld Theatre), where it ran for 204 performances. With a book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and music by John Kander, the musical focuses on Anna, the owner of a dilapidated roller skating rink on the boardwalk of a decaying seaside resort, who has decided to sell it to developers. Complicating her plans are her prodigal daughter Angel, who returns to town seeking to reconnect with the people and places she long ago left behind. Through a series of flashbacks, revelations, and minimal forward-moving plot development, the two deal with their pasts in their attempt to reconcile and move on with their lives. (more...)

The evening's one-of-a-kind all-star tribute, hosted by Emmy®, Grammy, Oscar and Tony® Award winner, Whoopi Goldberg, featured dozens of celebrities from Hollywood and Broadway in a one-night-only evening of musical selections drawn from Mr. Harris' career in theater, film and television, co-directed by Tony® Award winner and Drama League Alumnus Michael Mayer with Johanna McKeon, and co-produced by Roger T. Danforth and Trevor Tamashiro. BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge was on hand for the big event, where he chatted with all of the evening's guests. 'Look Who's in Love' features their original songs as well as songs by veteran Broadway composer Albert Hague (Christine's uncle) and timeless jazzy standards by Irving Berlin, Jule Styne, Jimmy Van Heusen, Betty Comden and Adolph Green.     Urban Stages Founding Artistic Director Frances Hill and producer Peter Napolitano present the World Premiere of Character Man as part of its 30th Anniversary season. Jim Brochu's new musical memoir begins an Off-Broadway run at Urban Stages Theatre (259 West 30th Street) February 28th, with opening night set for Wednesday March 5th. This limited run will continue through March 30th only. Robert Bartley directs, with musical direction by Carl Haan. Character Man will have scenic & video design by Patrick Brennan, lighting design by Meghan Santelli and sound design by Sean Hagerty. (more...)
