It's one of those great New York real estate stories that underscores what only a New Yorker understands: your entire life depends upon your apartment. Even if broke, a decent place in the right part of town is they key to everything. And broke he was, working odd jobs as house cleaner, landscaper, and law firm transcriptionist (or something equally tedious). But one day, after getting paid $150.00, he splurged on the 'full package' at a Korean massage parlor downtown. The scene, with Hwang on the accordion, is a microcosm of a show that through laughter, music, and sometimes tears, presents a brave yet gentle portrait of an artist. Like the show and his life, the massage has a happy ending, but not the one you expect. It's a long way from Lancaster to upstate New York which Wells shares with his soon-to-be husband. In these terrifying times, when even the tough are rattled by the news, Wells and the outstanding ensemble of IT WILL ALL WORK OUT reminds us that things sometimes do. (more...)

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts celebrates the musical legacy of Henry Mancini, one of the world's greatest composers, conductors and arrangers, on Saturday, April 1, 2017. From 'Moon River' to 'The Days of Wine and Roses' to the 'Peter Gunn Theme,' the music of Henry Mancini has helped define American film and television soundtracks for nearly five decades, and earned the legendary composer four Academy Awards, twenty Grammy Awards and numerous other honors, including a U.S. Postage Stamp. The evening not only honors Henry Mancini, but also celebrates Ginny Mancini and the Mancini family with a special performance by the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra from the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami-their first Los Angeles appearance since their move to Florida-with all proceeds benefiting the artistic, educational and outreach programs of The Wallis. Set in Paris in the 1930s, Victor/Victoria tells the story of talented singer Victoria Grant, down on her luck and out of a job, only to change her identity (and gender!) to become the toast of Paris as 'Count Victor of Poland,' a man who imitates a woman in the local cabaret. Amy Gillette will portray Victor/Victoria, the role made famous by Julie Andrews in the 1980 Blake Edwards movie of the same name. Ron Hastings plays the role of Toddy, played in the movie by Robert Preston. This musical won the IVRT audience poll and is being produced by IVRT for two nights and one matinee only, on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 27 and 28 at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont.
