The Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel has announced the Cafe Carlyle's spring 2015 season, which will feature some of Broadway's biggest stars, including the venue debuts of Alan Cumming and Lena Hall, and the highly anticipated return of Megan Hilty. On Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 8pm, the 92Y will present the New York debut of the harp-guitar duo comprised of internationally acclaimed harpist Yolanda Kondonassis and virtuoso classical guitarist Jason Vieaux in recital atKaufmann Concert Hall. The concert is part of the 92Y's Art of the Guitar series and will include Maximo Diego Pujol'sSuite Magica; Alan Hovhaness' Sonata for Guitar and Harp: Spirit of Trees; Gary Schocker's Hypnosis; Keith Fitch's Knock on Wood; and Xavier Montsalvatge's Fantasia. Kondonassis and Vieaux will also each play a solo piece, with Kondonassis performing Carlos Salzedo's Chanson dans la nuit and Vieaux performing an arrangement Antonio Carlos Jobim's A Felicidade. The Organizing Committee for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro just announced its official mascots will be 'Vinicius' and 'Tom' -- named after legendary Bossa Nova artists Vinicius de Moraes and Antonio Carlos 'Tom' Jobim. These two vital voices in Brazilian culture were responsible, along with collaborator Luiz Bonfa, for the now iconic music at the heart of the Academy Award and Cannes Palme d'Or winning film Black Orpheus. To celebrate the strength and vitality of the Brazilian film industry, Museum of the Moving Image will present a new ongoing series, O Brazil: Contemprary Brazilian Cinema. Featuring works by established directors and emerging filmmakers, this showcase will present a bird's eye view of a thriving film scene. The first installment, from November 22 through December 20, 2014, will include three films: My Mother Is a Character (Minha mãe é uma peça), starring the popular theater and TV comedian Paulo Gustavo in Brazil's biggest box-office hit of 2013; Casa Grande, Fellipe Barbosa 's coming-of-age drama that has been a hit at several international film festivals; and The Music According to Antonio Carlos Jobim (A música segundo Tom Jobim), a musical tribute to the artist who popularized bossa nova, by Cinema Novo pioneer Nelson Pereira dos Santos. Bay Area Cabaret, devoted to presenting audiences with top performers who expand the definition of cabaret, launches its 11th season this fall at the Fairmont San Francisco's historic Venetian Room with an Opening Night Gala celebrating the work of songwriter/composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, Pocahontas, Enchanted, Prince of Egypt). The evening will feature two on-stage interviews with Mr. Schwartz by ASCAP's Director of Musical Theatre Michael Kerker, and performances by Today Night Live's Ana Gasteyer, who performed the role of 'Elphaba' in Wicked on Broadway, and by two masterful interpreters of Schwartz' work, Liz Callaway and Michael McCorry Rose.
