Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a 'big bright beautiful world' as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family. Featuring 43 youth artists between the ages of 9-16 years old. Packed with high-energy dance numbers and catchy songs, Matilda JR. is a joyous girl power romp. Matilda has astonishing wit, intelligence... and special powers! Matilda's school life isn't completely smooth sailing, however – the school's mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don't abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils' saving grace! Children and adults alike will be thrilled and delighted by the story of the special little girl with an extraordinary imagination. New Albany Middle School was selected to perform as the only Middle School on the ABC6 Bicentennial Park Stage at the 2022 Columbus Arts Festival. This was a wonderful opportunity for these 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to share their passion for musical theatre with their community! The NAMS Theatre Department performed selections from their recent productions of “Xanadu Jr.”, “Mary Poppins Jr.” and finished off with the number “We don’t talk about Bruno” from the smash hit “Encanto”. New Albany Youth Theatre to Present Roald Dahl's MATILDA JR.


New Albany Youth Theatre will present Roald Dahl's Matilda JR. July 8-10, 2022 at the McCoy Center.

Based on one of the most popular Disney movies of all time and the Broadway musical that played for over 2,500 performances and received multiple Olivier and Tony Awards nominations, Disney and Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins captures hearts in a whole new way: as a practically perfect Broadway Junior musical! New Albany Middle School has been rehearsing and preparing for this show since January. Mary Poppins Jr. consists of 54 cast members and 16 crew members grades 6-8. Featuring projections by Nick Eberts and lighting design by Jon Gillie, an entire team of dedicated parents created the scenery, props and costumes led by Director Gould. Xanadu JR. follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California, on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny, to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first Roller Disco. (Hey, it's 1980!) But, when Kira falls into forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos abounds. Performances run October 29th thru the 31st, 2021 at the Jeanne B McCoy Center for the Arts, 100 West Dublin-Granville Rd., New Albany, OH 43054. Tickets were pre-sold at the school and remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

Hal Landon Jr. Returns as Scrooge in SCR 'A Christmas Carol'


Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, Orange County's beloved holiday family tradition, returns to South Coast Repertory for its 28th incarnation. Adapted for the stage by Jerry Patch and directed by John-David Keller, Dickens' classic tale runs on the Segerstrom Stage from Nov. 24 through Dec. 24. Low-priced previews begin Nov. 24.
