The Wick Theatre recently announced its exciting 2017/2018 season.

The Boca Raton theatre's fifth season opens with the modern classic The Drowsy Chaperone and then moves into three productions audiences have embraced as both film and stage productions, including A Wonderful Life, based on the beloved Frank Capra film; Singin' in the Rain, the quintessential MGM movie musical and the classic, Brigadoon.

The season finishes up with the hit-filled revue Jerry's Girls, a brilliant and lively evening of cabaret honoring the prolific Jerry Herman.

"I am delighted with the selections for our 5th season," said Marilynn A. Wick, Managing Executive Producer. "Each year, we collaborate with our audiences and encourage them to provide their input about shows they want to see. I believe this season offers a diverse array of productions that will appeal not only to traditional theatre goers, but also to a new demographic curious to see their favorite films brought to life on the stage."

In addition to the standard season productions, The Wick will soon be announcing an exciting lineup of special concerts and events. "Our special events and one-night only concerts have been very well-received, and we look forward to expanding the number of these productions next season," continued Marilynn. "Our goal from our inception was to offer something for everyone at The Wick, and with the stage shows, concerts, museum tours, and restaurant, we are consistently expanding our impact as an entertainment destination."

The 2017/2018 Season:

The Drowsy Chaperone

Oct 19- Nov 12

Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another. Hailed by New York Magazine as "The Perfect Broadway Musical," The Drowsy Chaperone is a masterful meta-musical, poking fun at all the tropes that characterize the musical theatre genre

A Wonderful Life

Nov 24-Dec 24

Frank Capra's beloved classic film "It's a Wonderful Life" is brought to the stage in this uplifting chronicle of the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. This musical faithfully follows the story line of George Bailey whose guardian angel reveals to him how different the world would have been had he never been born. The story is brought to vibrant theatrical life through the remarkable collaboration of Pulitzer Prize and Tony award-winner Sheldon Harnick and Grammy and Emmy Award-winner Joe Raposo. A Wonderful Life made its New York debut as a fundraiser for the Actors' Fund of America and featured a cast of Broadway luminaries.

Singin' in the Rain

Jan 11-Feb 18

The "Greatest Movie Musical of All Time" is lovingly adapted by Broadway legends Betty Comden and Adolph Green from their original award-winning screenplay. Lauded for its iconic choreography by Gene Kelly and Stanley Donen, Singin' in the Rain, offers a lighthearted depiction of Hollywood in the 1920's as stars transitioned from silent films to "talkies." The perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.

Brigadoon

Mar 8-April 8

One of the most intriguing and delightful aspects of a musical show is its ability to open up a whole new world to both its audience and cast. The show that does this better than any other is Brigadoon. This is a Scottish fantasy about a town that disappears into the Highland mist and returns for only one day every one hundred years. It includes Waitin' for My Dearie, I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean, Come to Me, Bend to Me, Almost Like Being in Love, There But for You Go I, The Heather on the Hill and My Mother's Weddin' Day. This is a tribute to simplicity, true love and goodness, which is hidden from the ordinary traveler. The Lerner and Lowe musical opened on Broadway in 1947, and was adapted to film in 1951 starring Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse.

Jerry's Girls

April 19-May 13

As the only composer-lyricist with the distinction of having three musicals that ran more than 1500 consecutive performances on Broadway, Jerry's Girls is an incredible homage to this prolific and talented composer. Created by Jerry Herman and Larry Alford, Jerry's Girls showcases the best songs Herman's immortal shows, including Hello Dolly!, MAME, La Cage Aux Folles and more. Songs include "It Only Takes a Moment," "Open a New Window," "Before the Parade Passes By," "The Best of Times," and an array of other classics. "A brilliantly lively and scintillating evening of cabaret." (The New York Times)
