Garden Theatre to Stage HAIRSPRAY, 4/25-5/25

The Garden Theatre presents Hairspray showing April 25 - May 25, 2014, Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm (160 W Plant Street). The presenting sponsors of Hairspray are Bob and Dianna Duffy. Hairspray is also sponsored Duke Energy, Insight Credit Union and Toole's ACE Hardware. The Garden Theatre's 2013-2014 Season is presented by CenturyLink. Several performance dates will feature celebrity walk-on roles. Directed by Rob Winn Anderson, Hairspray has a cast of over 30 actors, singers and dancers from across the Central Florida area.

"When I began to approach Hairspray, I knew that I wanted to find a new voice and energy for these beloved characters and the world that they live in," said Anderson. "The music that makes us dance in our seats, the dialogue that has us laughing out loud one minute, and shedding a tear the next, and the color, and fun, and excitement of what we all know will still be on the Garden stage. This is just a new brand of Hairspray - one that will take a permanent hold on your heart."

Hairspray takes place in 1962 and follows a lovable plus-size teen, Tracy Turnblad, who wants more than anything to dance on the popular Corny Collins Show. Once her dream comes true, Tracy's new-found stardom brings the power to dethrone the reigning Teen Queen, win the affections of heartthrob Link Larkin and, with a positive and uplifting message of acceptance, integrate a TV network.
