World Premiere of CITY OF GLASS to Play The New Ohio Theater

Untitled Theater Company No. 61 is thrilled to announce the world premiere theatrical adaptation of Paul Auster's seminal novel CITY OF GLASS, the first of his acclaimed New York Trilogy, adapted and directed by UTC61 Artistic Director Edward Einhorn. CITY OF GLASS begins performances on Friday, February 19 for a limited engagement through Saturday, March 12. Press Opening is Wednesday, February 24. The performance schedule is Wednesday at 7 PM; Thursday - Saturday at 8 PM; Sunday at 5 PM. Please note: there is an added performance on Saturday, March 12 at 2PM; there are no performances on Sunday, February 28 or Wednesday, March 2. Based on the post-modern pulp novel, CITY OF GLASS, the first in Paul Auster's New York Trilogy, is the provocative story of a nascent PI's descent into obsession and madness while working on a case in New York City. Daniel Quinn receives a phone call. On the other end of the line is a man asking for Paul Auster, private detective. Quinn claims to be Auster and falls down a rabbit hole, meeting a man who grew up without language, the femme fatale who serves as his protector, and a father who may want him dead.

This film-noir inspired meditation on the nature of language and identity is wrapped in a surreal mystery set in Manhattan's Upper West Side. The production uses multimedia elements to create the illusion of a multiplicity of figures, by projecting video onto surfaces of cracked glass.

Drama Desk Award-winner (and two-time nominee) T. Ryder Smith (War Horse, Passion Play, Underneath the Lintel, Richard Foreman's The Gods Are Pounding My Head) stars as gumshoe Daniel Quinn. He is joined on stage by and performers/dancers Matteo Moreno and Dina Rose Rivera.

Auster's detective fiction is considered "one of the most distinctive niches in contemporary literature" by the New York Review of Books. The New York Times called the novel CITY OF GLASS "strange and powerful...full of suspense and action."

Drama Desk Award-nominee Freddi Price performs his original score live. The creative team includes Christopher Heilman (set design); Chris Weston (lighting design); Carla Gant (costume design); and Gil Sperling (video design). The choreographer is Patrice Miller. The production stage manager is Berit Johnson.

Edward Einhorn (adaptor/director) is the Artistic Director of Untitled Theater Company #61. Recent work includes Money Lab (HERE, The Brick); The God Projekt (La MaMa); The Pig or Vaclav Havel's Hunt for a Pig (3LD); The Velvet Oratorio (The Czech Consulate, The Walter Bruno Theater at Lincoln Center); and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?
