Thursday, June 16th, 8:45pm
Sunday, June 19th, 2pm

Batz takes the premise of Elevator Repair Service's theatrical event "Gatz" and substitutes classic Batman stories for "The Great Gatsby," resulting in a fast-paced, hilarious take on Batman, Robin, and their Rogues Gallery that celebrates the imaginative, social and transformative power of comics.

Created, written and directed by downtown comedy and theater veterans Josh Mertz and Erik Bowie, Batz features an all-star cast of indie theater stalwarts and up-and-comers, including Lynn Berg, Melissa DeLancey, Matt Foster, Matt Gray, Bob Laine, Ed Lane, Dan Maccarone, Sarah Mertz, and Harrison Unger.

Batz will run Thursday, June 16 @ 8:45pm, Sunday, June 19 @ 2pm, Saturday, June 25 @ 8:30pm & Tuesday, June 28 @ 8:45pm as part of The Comic Book Theater Festival at The Brick (575 Metropolitan Avenue between Union Avenue and Lorimer Street, Brooklyn). Tickets ($15) may be purchased online at www.bricktheater.com or by calling 866-811-4111.

Erik Bowie is originally from Colorado. He has also acted in a number of popular and critically-acclaimed downtown theater projects, including The Brick Theater's Penny Dreadful, and while he has no national tours to his name, he did once guest star as a young King Arthur on the Disney Channel's The Jersey. As the most important member of influential sketch comedy troupe Slightly Known People, he, and four other members of the Batz show held the weekly Saturday night slot at legendary East Village comedy mecca Rififi for over 3 years. He is the co-producer of the forthcoming superhero comedy web series With Great Power and his writing has appeared on mcsweeneys.net, reallysmalltalk.com, and Weekend America. It's not really a competition though.
