The sketch comedy musical stories of Story Pirates will be showcased on the SOPAC stage May 14 at 12 p.m. Called "crazy entertaining" by Jon Stewart, Story Pirates will keep you doubled over laughing, all the while motivating kids to pick up a pencil and write from their own imaginations. Story Pirates celebrates creative writing by kids in a loud, hilarious sketch comedy musical performed by professional improvisers and musicians. The live performance is based entirely on stories written from the unfiltered imaginations of young people.

Musical director Eli Boli, a Maplewood resident, enjoys a career that that spans both stage and television. His youthful enthusiasm and connection with kids is on display with the lively accompaniment to the stories. He has been the composer for Sesame Street since 2010 and he has provided music for Billy on the Street as well as multiple Comedy Central specials.

In celebration of SOPAC's 10th Anniversary, there will be a pre-show costume parade, where kids are encouraged to wear their favorite costumes to the performance. The parade will be followed by giveaways from SOPAC, Sparkhouse, and [words] Bookstore.

Since 2003, Story Pirates have worked with tens of thousands of students to make their own words and ideas come to life on stage, and watched as, one by one, these children began to call themselves writers. Story Pirates is a nationally respected education and media organization that celebrates the words and ideas of young people.

Story Pirates will enthrall children on the SOPAC stage May 14 at 12:00 p.m. Tickets are $18 and can be purchased online at SOPACnow.org, or by calling the box office at (973) 313-2787.
