Seacoast Repertory Theatre has announced that is has been has been honored with New Hampshire Magazine's Best of NH Award in the category of "New Hampshire's Eclectic Performing Arts Venue". The Rep earned its award because of the overwhelming success of its "Red Light Series", an ongoing sojourn through the world of adult alternative programming. In naming The Seacoast Repertory Theatre this year's winner, NH Magazine stated:

"'At the Seacoast Repertory Theatre, Portsmouth's libertine past is still on display in the wild variety of offerings they host (along with some of the state's best dramas and musicals). Their Red Light series of "alternative" programming features delightfully deviant diversions, the Let's "B" Reel film series screens grindhouse and cult films, and there's truly something for everyone, like their acclaimed youth theatre, Senior Moment performance group and Chef series for 2014 focusing on local, sustainable food culture. June launches "mysterious subtext theatre 2K14," - a live version of Mystery Science Theatre. More? The geek-centric Dorks and Dungeons is back for another season as will be interactive events like "I Could Just Diary."'"

"I am overjoyed that our little series is getting such positive attention..." says Knate Higgins, Red Light's director and The Rep's special series curator. "I believe so much in The Rep and this award is just the tip of the iceberg to what we are capable of providing our community"

Said Seacoast Rep board president, and Art-Speak board member Alan Gold, "The work that Knate and his team have done is extraordinary. This-now award-winning-programming reflects and honors the great diversity of interests that we have in the Seacoast region, and underscores how rich an environment Portsmouth has for creativity, culture and the arts.

The Red Light series continues to bring the seacoast and beyond an "alternative night out" at The Rep. Events range from cult films at Let's "B" Reel nights, to first rate drag entertainment with Midsummer Night Queens, to intimate talks with our many award-winning local chefs at Eat It Up.
