The Grove Theatre announces the opening of The Nutcracker, which is running for two nights only, December 22 nd and 23rd. Performances are at 8:00 pm. This beautiful ballet is based on the story The Nutcracker and the King of Mice written by E.T.A. Hoffman.

The Stalbaum family is preparing for their long awaited Christmas Eve gathering. Guests arrive and greet Mr. and Mrs. Stalbaum along with their two children, the incorrigible Franz and the lovely Claire. Claire and Franz are particularly delighted to greet their Godfather Drosselmeyer who always arrives with enchanting gifts. Drosselmeyer has fashioned a wooden Nutcracker in the image of his nephew, a young soldier who was placed under a curse by the evil King of Mice. Drosselmeyer's enchantment will break the curse, but only if a young lady falls in love with the Nutcracker. And thus begins the most frightening and wonderful Christmas Eve of Claire's life. She finds herself enamored with the Nutcracker and overjoyed when Drosselmeyer gives it to her as her present.

Later that night, Claire finds herself trapped in a terrible nightmare, battling the Mouse King. Suddenly her Nutcracker comes to life and after defeating the Mouse King she and her Prince Nutcracker travel through a winter snow storm to the land of sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her court of dancers from lands near and far. Claire enjoys a beautiful performance and is then transformed by the Sugar Plum Fairy into a princess ballerina. She and her prince dance together to end the splendid evening.

The ballet is performed by students from A Terre School of Dance in Rancho Cucamonga under the direction of Danielle San Paolo and is definitely a show to be enjoyed by the entire family.
