Back by popular demand, The Gospel According to Kinison, an inside view of Pentecostalism, the Kinison family and religion, opens this Friday, January the 17th, at the Grove Theatre.

While many know of the comedian Sam Kinison, few know the story of the Kinison family and the brother who was truly the star in the family. All four Kinison brothers (including Sam) followed in their parents' footsteps to become Pentecostal preachers, so it's only fitting that the The Gospel According to Kinison, written by brother, Bill, puts the spotlight on Pentecostalism. Performed by Bill himself like a church service with inspiring music by a choir that includes Bill's wife, gospel artist Sherry Kinison, an organist and a small band, this tragicomedy offers an inside look at the Kinison family, religion and some of the popular evangelists of the time. Fiercely funny and bitingly sad, this moving tragic-comedy throws theatre instantaneously into high gear.

The show had nightly standing ovations when it premiered at The Grove in November.

Running from January 17th through the 26th, performances are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:29 pm and on Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20 with senior, student and group discounts and can be purchased by calling (909) 920-4343, or by visiting The Grove box office or website at http://www.grovetheatre.com. The Grove Theatre is located at 276 E. Ninth Street, Upland, CA 91786.
