Stormy Weather: The Lena Horne Project Makes LA Premiere

The Jazz Bakery and KMP Artists are set to announce the Los Angeles premiere of Stormy Weather: The Lena Horne Project, based on the book Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne by New York Times contributor and NAACP Image Award nominee James Gavin and featuring the musical talents of pianist Larry Dunlap, bassist Christopher Colangelo, drummer Kendall Kay and the legendary Mary Wilson. This spectacular one-night-only performance will take place at the Musicians Institute Concert Center, 1655 N. McCadden Place in Hollywood, and will kick off a 2-week fall tour of the piece.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Starring Mary Wilson of The Supremes and narrated by James Gavin, this multimedia event is a living, breathing biography of the late, legendary Lena Horne. A combination of storytelling, live performance and rare video of Horne herself, Stormy Weather is an unforgettable celebration of Hollywood's first African-American goddess, who reigned at M-G-M's "Dream Factory" of movie musicals then became a fabled nightclub seductress and civil rights icon.

Stormy Weather: The Lena Horne Project is appropriate for all ages.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Mary Wilson gained fame as a founding member of Motown's legendary singing group of the 1960s and '70s, The Supremes. Wilson was the only singer to stay consistently with the group throughout its 18-year tenure. She remains a strong advocate for the group's legacy and regularly performs The Supremes' music, but has also gone on to become an acclaimed jazz and blues singer, humanitarian, and advocate for artists' rights. She has published the autobiography Dreamgirl: My Life as a Supreme and two follow-up books, Supreme Faith: Someday We'll Be Together and an updated combination of the two entitled Dreamgirl & Supreme Faith: My Life as a Supreme.

James Gavin is the Manhattan-born author of Intimate Nights: The Golden Age of New York Cabaret and Deep in a Dream: The Long Night of Chet Baker as well as Stormy Weather. His journalism has appeared in the New York Times, Vanity Fair, Time Out New York, the Daily Beast, and the Huffington Post. He has contributed liner notes to over 400 CDs; his essay for the GRP box set Ella Fitzgerald - The Legendary Decca Recordings earned a 1996 Grammy nomination. His forthcoming book, a biography of Peggy Lee, will be published by Atria Books/Simon & Schuster.
