The 2014 Jazz at the Bowl Series begins tonight, July 9, 2014 as The Count Basie Orchestra and special guests celebrate the music of Ella Fitzgerald. The series also features, among others, Boz Scaggs, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Herbie Hancock, a Christian McBride-directed James Brown Celebration, John Legend recreating Marvin Gaye's What's Going On, Peter Frampton, Marcus Miller, and more. The season marks Herbie Hancock's fifth year as Creative Chair for Jazz.

To Ella With Love
The Count Basie Orchestra; Patti Austin, special guest; Dee Dee Bridgewater, special guest; Clint Holmes, special guest; Yuna, special guest; Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra; Carmen Bradford, special guest

The "First Lady of Song" Ella Fitzgerald was one of the world's greatest jazz voices. The evening salutes her swinging scat and timeless classics with the Count Basie Orchestra and special guest vocalists. L.A.'s own Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra kicks off the evening.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 16
Boz Scaggs; Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin; Eliane Elias

Blue-eyed soulster Boz Scaggs headlines with his hits and smooth rhythm-and-blues from his new release. Musical friends Ritenour and Grusin promise eclectic tastes, flawless technique and cool refinement. Elias plays her captivating fusion of Bill Evans-influenced jazz and Brazilian grooves.

Gilberto Santa Rosa ; Sheila E.

"El Caballero de la Salsa," one of the most prominent salsa performers, returns to the Bowl! Multiple Grammy®-winner Santa Rosa's pioneering music ranges from salsa romantic to ritmo tropical, improvisation to bolero. His canciones para el corazón will be sure to move you. Sensational star percussionist Sheila E. heats up the night with feisty Latin rhythms and effervescent pop.

Herbie Hancock with Orchestra ; Vince Mendoza, conductor ; Gregory Porter

Robert Glasper Experiment
Led by Mendoza, Hancock's compositions take on new life, to sweeping effect, with the addition of orchestral arrangements. Acclaimed new jazz singer Porter adds warmth and old-school sound with his own set. Glasper and his unique jazz hip hop sound open the evening.

Get on Up: A James Brown Celebation
