The desert season heats up with a new partner in the cultural life of the Coachella Valley: Desert Baroque, founded by early keyboard specialist, Margaret Irwin-Brandon. Desert Baroque is poised to strengthen and deepen the musical offerings that make the Coachella Valley a go-to area for residents and visitors alike. January 20th, 21st, and 22nd, 2017 in three Valley locations.
Desert Baroque, "The Suite Life" opens its festive weekend of events celebrating the harpsichord with a solo concert on Friday, January 20, 2017, 7:00 pm, Soloist Gilbert Martinez, the brilliant and ever surprising internationally recognized harpsichordist now resident in Copenhagen, with roots in California where he also serves as Director of Music Sources in Berkeley. His program will feature music of William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, Melchior Schildt, Louis Couperin, Johann Jacob Froberger and Jean-Philippe Rameau, stretching through two centuries at the heart of the golden age of the harpsichord. Martinez, in addition to his concert, will lead the first class, Friday afternoon, January 20, 2:00 pm, on the Allemande and Courante.
