Those damn New York Yankees swept their playoff series and are headed to the American League Championship series. What better time to catch a performance of the hit Broadway musical Damn Yankees, presented by One More Productions- one of Southern California's leading musical theater companies - through October 24 in The Gem Theatre in Garden Grove. The production is directed by Damien Lorton.

In Damn Yankees, middle-aged baseball fanatic Joe Boyd trades his soul to the Devil (the charming but devious Mr. Applegate) for a chance to lead his favorite team to victory in the pennant race against the New York Yankees. As young baseball sensation Joe Hardy, he transforms the hapless Washington Senators into a winning team, only to realize the true worth of the life (and wife) he's left behind.

Based on Douglass Wallop's novel "The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant," Damn Yankees is a musical comedy with a book by Wallop and George Abbott, music by Richard Adler, and lyrics by Jerry Ross. The story is a modern retelling of the Faust legend and is set during the 1950s when the New York Yankees dominated Major League Baseball-much like they're doing today!

The Garden Grove Journal says that Damn Yankees is "a staging that looks, sounds and feels thoroughly professional...devilishly entertaining."
