The performers have been set for the North American premiere of "The Author" by Tim Crouch. The play, co-directed by Karl James and a smith, is presented by Center Theatre Group at the Kirk Douglas Theatre as part of DouglasPlus programming. "The Author" runs for 13 performances only, February 15 - 27, 2011. Opening is set for February 17.

"The Author" is performed by Tim Crouch, Chris Goode, Vic Llewellyn and Esther Smith.

Lighting design is by Christopher Kuhl, original lighting design by Matt Drury and sound design by Ben and Max Ringham.

In his remarkable theatrical event "The Author," Tim Crouch provides a startling perspective on the relationship of the audience to the performers and to the material in the play. This production breaks down all four walls of traditional theatre as the audience, seated on the stage with four actors, becomes complicit in the shocking story of violent abuse that is being told. What emerges in what the London Guardian called ". . . this bold, brave, playful piece" is a "devastating riff on ways of seeing and turning a blind eye to our own moral choices."

In addition to "The Author," Tim's plays include "My Arm," "ENGLAND" (a play for galleries) and the Obie winning "An Oak Tree," which ran at the Odyssey Theatre in L.A. in 2010.  He has also written six plays for younger audiences and, this year, directed "The Taming of the Shrew" for the Royal Shakespeare Company.

"The Author" was commissioned and produced by The Royal Court Theatre and first performed at the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, Royal Court Theatre in London in 2009.

"The Author" contains material that may be disturbing. Recommended for ages 18+.
