The White Theatre presents the classic musical Fiddler on the Roof at the theatre located inside the Jewish Community Center in Overland Park, Kan. Steven Eubank directs the award-winning musical, with musical direction by Daniel Doss, which opens on Saturday November 8 at 7:30 p.m. Based on Tevye and his Daughters and other tales by Sholem Aleichem, Fiddler on the Roof features music by Jerry Bock and lyrics by Sheldon Harnick with a book by Joseph Stein.

The 1964 Broadway production is the first musical theatre to have a run surpassing 3,000 performances, holding the record for the longest-running Broadway musical for almost 10 years. Nominated for 10 Tony Awards it won nine including Best Musical, direction, and choreography among others.

The father of five daughters, Tevye a poor milkman, attempts to maintain Jewish traditions and family, while being influenced by outside sources. His three older daughters have chosen a husband, each one moving further from customs and faith. The musical features timeless classics as "Matchmaker," "If I Were a Rich Man," and "Sunrise, Sunset."

"We are so excited to bring this incredible production to our community," says Krista Blackwood, Director of Cultural Arts at The J. "While 'Fiddler on the Roof' focuses on a Jewish family in prerevolutionary Russia, the musical's strong themes of tradition, repression and prejudice create common ground for audiences of all kinds. There's universal appeal in its themes of generational conflict, the triumph of love and the dynamic struggle between tradition and change. Whoever you are, wherever you are, this is a story about you and your family."

The cast includes Rick Singers as Tevye, Jeannette Bonjour as Golde, Alexandra Addington as Tzeitel, Courtney Koval as Hodel, Giana Epps as Chava, Ella Graham as Shprintze, and Elise Bowles as Bielke. Also appearing in the White Theatre production are Ken Koval, Michael Golliher, Preston O'Ffill, Irene Blend, Arthur Clifford, Vicky Delaughder, Jennifer Miears, Curt Knupp, John Ras, Hunter Hawkins, Ali Watson, Ashley Shaefer, Zack Lerner, Bill Bergman, Scott Slabotsky, and Ethan Zwibelman. Featured dancers include Matthew Iway, Coby Jones, and Keanu Vitug.

Fiddler on the Roof runs through November 23 with evening shows at 7:30 p.m. and matinees at 2 p.m. Purchase tickets at the White Theatre website. Photo courtesy of White Theatre.
