Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Matthew Lombardo present the Barrington Stage production of Becoming Dr. Ruth with Debra Jo Rupp as Dr. Ruth Westheimer at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale from Wednesday, April 16 through Sunday, April 20. Tickets go on sale Friday, January 31for the acclaimed Mark St. Germain play, which is directed by Julianne Boyd and is part of the WinterStage Series at the Parker Playhouse. Here's how the producers bill the work: "Everyone knows Dr. Ruth Westheimer from her career as a pioneering radio and television sex therapist. Few, however, know the incredible journey that preceded it. From fleeing the Nazis in the Kindertransport and joining the Haganah in Jerusalem as a scout and sniper, to her struggles to succeed as a single mother coming to America, Karola Ruth Siegel - the girl who became 'Dr. Ruth'- has a remarkable backstory. Becoming Dr. Ruth is filled with the humor, honesty and life-affirming spirit of 'Dr. Ruth' -America's most famous sex therapist!"
Debra Jo Rupp received rave reviews for her performance as Dr. Ruth in New York and is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Kitty Forman on the FOX sitcom That '70s Show.
