convergence-continuum to Present BASED ON A TOTALLY TRUE STORY, Begin. 8/23
convergence-continuum continues its 2013 Season, Ruled by Passion, with a quirky romantic comedy: the Ohio premiere of Based on a Totally True Story by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. (Mr. Aguirre-Sacasa is also the author of Say You Love Satan, which received a popular convergence-continuum production in 2010.)
Cute, kinda nerdy New Yorker Ethan Keene seems to have it all: a career as a successful comic book writer by day and struggling playwright by night and a great, recently-met boyfriend, with whom he shares a nice Greenwich Village apartment. But Ethan's world is suddenly turned upside down when Mary Ellen Eustice, an assertive Hollywood producer, wants to turn one of Ethan's unproduced plays into a big-budget horror movie-possibly starring Nicole Kidman. With movie fame and fortune (and other Hollywood temptations) clouding his vision, Ethan struggles to be a loving, supportive partner to his boyfriend Michael Sullivan, a Village Voice reporter and budding novelist. On top of which, Ethan's dad announces that he's leaving Ethan's mom for a married woman-and can he please stay with Ethan and Michael until he finds a new place to live? Hearts are broken, lessons learned, and dreams deferred in this quirky, offbeat romantic comedy of manners.
Based on a Totally True Story is directed by convergence-continuum's Cory Molner (who directed last season's MilkMilkLemonade), and features Zac Hudak, Stuart Hoffman, Lisa Wiley, Bobby Coyne and Clyde Simon.
Based on a Totally True Story opens Friday, August 23 and runs at 8 p.m. Thu-Sat through September 14 at the Liminis, 2438 Scranton Rd., Cleveland, OH 44113 in the historic Tremont neighborhood. Tickets are $15 general admission, $12 for seniors and $10 for students. Reservations and information at www.convergence-continuum.org and 216-687-0074.
