In the first half of this special evening, barrier-crushing artist advocates who have both embraced and challenged time-honored conventions in classical music come together to discuss key questions in our field today. How will diverse, classically trained artists engage the eyes and ears of future audiences? What power dynamics must be navigated and addressed to increase representation on the stage, in the seats, and in executive leadership? Hear what initiatives are currently advancing diversity in the field of classical music both locally and nationally.
In the second half, celebrated radio host, commentator, and writer Terrance McKnight curates and leads a unique evening of conversation, reflection, and music through the lens of different Magic Flute protagonists such as Monostatos, the enslaved overseer of the wizard Sarastro's temple.
