Queen City Theatre Company (2010 Theatre Company of the Year) is proud to announce the regional premiere of the musical PASSION. This highly anticipated production marks the closing of the company's 5th season in Charlotte, NC and will run from May 3rd until May 19th at the Duke Energy Theatre.

This production will be Directed by Glenn T. Griffin, with Musical Direction from Marty Gregory and Choreography from Alyson Lowe. Music and Lyrics are by Stephen Sondheim, to the book by James Lapine.

PASSION, winner of 4 Tony Awards including Best Music and Lyrics, Best Book, and Best Musical, features music and lyrics by the acclaimed Stephen Sondheim (Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Company, Follies, Into The Woods, Gypsy) and book by James Lapine (Falsettos, Into The Woods, Sunday In The Park With George).

The Charlotte, NC production of Sondheim's PASSION will be directed by QCTC's Artistic Director Glenn T. Griffin (2011 Creative Loafing Director of the Year and Best Director in a Musical) and features regional actors. One of the highlights of the show will be the costumes, featuring some of the original costumes from the award winning Broadway production.

PASSION opened on Broadway in 1994, and received its London revival in 2010 at the Donmar Warehouse as part of Stephen Sondheim's 80th birthday celebrations featuring Elena Roger (currently playing Evita on Broadway) in the role of Fosca and winning the Evening Standard Award for Best Musical.

Stephen Sondheim's PASSION revolves around a handsome Italian solider, Giorgio, separated from his beautiful mistress, who is shattered and ultimately changed by the unconditional and obsessive love of Fosca, his Colonel's chronically ill and plain cousin. Her unrelenting passions force him to re-evaluate his beliefs about love and attraction between two human beings.
