Opera in the Heights Artists Present INTERMEZZO Chamber Music Concerts

Lambert Hall is the place be for "Intermezzo," a chamber music concert that includes popular opera arias and beautiful chamber pieces performed by Opera in the Heights (Oh!) singers and orchestra members who are volunteering their time and talents to raise funds for the regional opera company. Performances are Saturday, Oct. 8 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.

The "Intermezzo" concert series is being organized by Maiko Sasaki, who is the clarinetist in Oh!'s orchestra. Although admission is free, the suggested minimum donation is $20, with special reserved seating for those donating $80 or more. The concerts take place at historic Lambert Hall, located at 1703 Heights Blvd. in the heart of the Houston Heights.

"Opera in the Heights has been providing quality entertainment in Houston for more than 20 years," says Sasaki. "I have had the good fortune of being part of Oh!'s orchestra for half of its history. Because of the unique and intimate setting of Lambert Hall, I can see audience members laugh and cry with characters on stage and also leave the theater with big smiles on their faces."

Sasaki notes that this provides her with satisfaction and motivates her to be a better artist. "I appreciate Oh! for providing such a rich cultural experience for so many people. Many other orchestra members share my feelings, and we would like to help Opera in the Heights continue to be a worthy cultural fixture in Houston for many years to come."

The Oh! orchestra is under the direction of a talented young conductor, Eiki Isomura, who came on board in January 2015. "Our orchestra is the vital heart, the engine, of Opera in the Heights," he says. "We are so fortunate to have the same core of top-tier musicians return each season to not merely maintain our high artistic standard, but to continue to develop our chemistry and our already sensitive ensemble-playing."

Isomura explains that the singing artists find deeper levels in their performances because the orchestra is so inspiring. "The audience responds immediately, too," he says. "When the Oh! orchestra tears into an overture with their remarkable vibrancy, the audience knows they are in for a special experience."
