Fort Worth Opera Presents One Year Anniversary Of NOCHES DE OPERA With FIESTA FORT WORTH

Fort Worth Opera (FWOpera), in partnership with Telemundo, celebrates the first year of its bold new initiative, Noches de Ópera (Nights of Opera), with Fiesta Fort Worth, a family-friendly party in Sundance Square Plaza featuring a simulcast of the smash-hit mariachi opera Cruzar la Cara de la Luna for thousands of spectators. For the first time in the history of Fort Worth, an arts organization will feature a broadcast of a live theatrical performance in Bass Performance Hall projected onto a huge, high-definition screen for all North Texans to enjoy in Sundance Square.

This free event honors the incredible cultural diversity of our North Texas community and celebrates Latino culture and heritage while offering everyone across Fort Worth an opportunity to see the world's first mariachi opera, featuring the legendary Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán.

The city's 55,000 square foot outdoor plaza will be filed with local artists, such as Sol de Fort Worth Ballet Folklórico, Guitar Fort Worth, Ballet Folklórico Azteca de Fort Worth, JP Elder Middle School, Mariachi Espuelas de Plata of North Side High School, Ballet Folklórico de Fort Worth, Inc., a performer from the Kimbell Art Museum, and more.

The evening's festivities will feature family-oriented activities and appearances by prominent community leaders from Telemundo, Rep. Marc Veasey, FWISD Trustee Jacinto "Cinto" Ramos Jr., and Rep. Ramon Romero Jr. Fiesta Fort Worth and the simulcast of the opening-night performance of Cruzar la Cara de la Luna are made possible in part by the generosity of OPERA America, through The Opera Fund: Audience Development grant program.

The 2017 FWOpera Festival will include a time-honored classic, Bizet's incendiary tale of tragic seduction, Carmen; a vibrant, contemporary mainstage production unlike anything in FWOpera's repertoire, Cruzar la Cara de la Luna; and the riveting world premiere of Voir Dire, an insider's look into the disturbing, explicit, savagely brutal world of legal drama. The Festival will also usher in the fifth year of Fort Worth Opera's critically-acclaimed new works showcase, Frontiers.
