Review: INDIANA JONES & RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK IN CONCERT, Royal Albert Hall
UK / West End: Aliya Al-Hassan on May 26, 2024 In 1973 George Lucas wrote a story titled “The Adventures of Indiana Smith”, inspired by the adventure films of the 1930s and 1940s. While on holiday with Steven Spielberg, Lucas pitched his story, and convinced him to direct a trilogy of films. Spielberg suggested that the surname was changed to Jones and the rest is history. Simply known as Raiders of the Lost Ark when it was originally released, the film features an incredible score by the great John Williams.
Review: APPROPRIATE Stuns at Dirt Dogs Theatre Co.
Houston: Brett Cullum on May 25, 2024 It is a tense Southern psychodrama about family and the results of abuse on members of it. Cicadas, verbal sparring, racism, and outright brawls all make appearances as one would expect. Yet the show is still surprising in many turns and should have audiences laughing and gasping often simultaneously. The darkest of humor surfaces out of tragedy.

Review: Alice Ripley with John McDaniel at Blue Strawberry Showroom and Lounge
St. Louis: James Lindhorst on May 25, 2024 McDaniel’s vision for their collaboration, his music direction, and accompaniment brought an award-winning musical theatre actor back to the stage after a lengthy hiatus. Their show played directly into the strengths of Ripley’s vocal stylings with her massive voice. Ripley belted for two hours while these two artists graciously gave more of themselves than most artists do with a 90-minute cabaret set.

St. Louis: James Lindhorst on May 25, 2024 Prism Theatre Company rolled out their new production concept at Greenfinch Theater and Dive Bar on Thursday Evening. BROADWAY DIVAS is the first installment of their Meadowlark Cabaret Series. Their company of 14 local actors performed 18 musical theatre songs originated by some of the best-known divas in Broadway history, featuring music by some of the most lauded musical theatre composers. While the production is billed as a cabaret performance, BROADWAY DIVAS is more of a musical revue that featured 5 dynamic and memorable vocal performances.
Review: MAEVE'S CAMELLIA at The Interchange Theater

Review: PERFECT SHOW FOR RACHEL, Barbican Pit
UK / West End: Louise Penn on May 25, 2024 Produced by Zoo Co and Improbable, this is not your show, or like any show you might have seen before. Perfect Show for Rachel is just what it says, a perfect show directed by Rachel O'Mahony, who is learning disabled, living in a care home, and exploring her creativity. So anything can happen, and no two shows are the same.
Review: FINDING WORDS FOR SPRING Finds Steve Ross in Fine Form at Birdland
Cabaret: Rob Lester on May 25, 2024 Finding words for FINDING WORDS FOR SPRING with veteran singer-pianist Steve Ross could result in adjectives such as 'lovely' and 'savvy' and 'charming.' Ross, the ultimate class act and champion of classic songs, makes us appreciate them anew, blossoming one more time, like the annual spring flowers. He's a perennial, too.
Review: EMERGING DANCER 2024, Sadler's Wells

Review: Chance Theater Stages OC Premiere of ALMA
Los Angeles: Michael Quintos on May 24, 2024 Having its OC Premiere at Chance Theater in Anaheim, CA through May 31, ALMA—the touching, poignant, and very timely play written by Benjamin Benne—delves dramatically into the complex, sometimes contentious, but achingly relatable relationship between a struggling single immigrant mother and her smart but stubborn American-born teenage daughter. |
