Romeo and Juliet Comes To The Whole Backstage

Fall in love again with Shakespeare's timeless story of young passions and feuding families as the star-crossed lovers of Romeo and Juliet are brought to the Whole Backstage in a magnificent, traditional setting. Opening February 11th at the Whole Backstage theater in Guntersville, Romeo and Juliet features Garrett Gamble and Anna Tucker in the title roles and is directed by Rich Resler.

A long, hot summer in Verona enflames the old feud between the Capulet and Montague families, leading to public brawls. As the tension builds in the streets, two teenagers fall in love at first sight. Married in secret, they hope for reconciliation between their families. When short tempers lead to deadly consequences, the young lovers find themselves alone and on the run, facing impossible odds and making desperate decisions. What starts as a bawdy teenage comedy transforms into a heart-stirring romance for the ages, and features the shining lyricism of Shakespeare's extraordinary poetry.

The cast includes (by hometown): (Albertville) Josh Feemster, Mike Franklin; (Arab) Bob Copeland, Lucas Green, Leilani Hayes, Nicholas Hayes, Jake Heflin; (Gadsden) Fay Ray; (Grant) Garrett Gamble, Jared Wright; (Guntersville) Chris Bryan, Taylor Hyatt, April Isom, Mitch Resler, Will Smith, Anna Tucker; (Hayden) R.J. Whitfield; (Holly Pond) Larry Pennefather; and (Madison) Josh Hardiman and Preston Lewis.

Rich Resler is in his sixteenth season with the Whole Backstage Theatre. Romeo and Juliet is his fifth time in the director's chair, having previously helmed The Robber Bridegroom, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown, The Miracle Worker, and Arsenic and Old Lace. Some of his acting credits include roles as Heck Tate in To Kill A Mockingbird, Julian Marsh in 42nd Street, Murray Burns in A Thousand Clowns, Leonard Ganz in Neil Simon's Rumors, and Luther Billis in South Pacific.

Performances of Romeo and Juliet will run February 11-13 and 17-20. Weeknight and Saturday performances are at 7:00 pm; Sunday matinees are at 2:00 pm. The Whole Backstage Theatre is located at 1120 Rayburn Avenue in Guntersville, just two blocks off of Gunter Avenue. Ticket prices range from $12-15.
