WOOLGATHERERS Set for 2017 FRIGID Festival at The Kraine Theater

The 2017 FRIGID Festival presents An Asylos production: Woolgatherers, with text by Asylos, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Tom Waits. The show runs February 13th - March 5th, 2017.

Directed by G.J. Dowding, the show features music direction by Virginia Rupert and video design by Teresa Braun & Yael Shavitt. It is assistant directed by Graham Shelton.

Performances run February 13th - March 5th as part of the 2017 FRIGID Festival: Feb 17 6:50pm, Feb 19 1:50pm, Feb 26 5:10pm Mar 1 7:10pm; March 4 1:40pm at The Kraine Theater, 85 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003. Tickets: $18 at www.horseTRADE.info (on sale January 15).

Woolgatherers is inspired by Patti Smith's artistry and performed as a multi-media re-imagined concert. Traveling through various realms of time, the woolgatherers seek to understand the root of their existence and resolve the oppression of their cyclical reality. This fantasy performance piece unveils complex layers of identity, gender, displacement and loss, and belongs to a trilogy devised by Asylos.

G.J. Dowding is a Brooklyn based theater director, performer and writer. He is the artistic director of Asylos, an experimental theater company. Original works written and choreographed by G.J. include Quizzically Quimsical (Gene Frankel Theatre) and (Miss)ter Silhouette Man (Dixon Place). Original devised pieces with Asylos include Crystal Jukebox Hymn (Glasshouse ArtLifeLab and The Brick), Out of The Ash (Dixon Place and Glasshouse ArtLifeLab) and Woolgatherers (FiveMyles and The Kraine Theater). G.J. directed and produced a dreamy re-imagining of Tennessee Williams' Something Cloudy, Something Clear (Invisible Dog Art Center and Wild Project). G.J. assistant directed and stage managed under director Katherine Brook on Getrude Stein's Pink Melon Joy (Tennessee Williams Theater Festival and Cloud City). He is currently stage managing Title:Point's Chroma Key (Brick Theater). G.J. founded, curated and emceed the performance laboratory Smoke from The Ashtray. G.J. has performed with butoh Dance Company LEIMAY, Tele-Violet as well as in numerous other movement and theater pieces.

Asylos is a movement based experimental theater company that performs around Brooklyn and Manhattan in galleries, theaters, residential spaces and outdoors. The company is currently immersed in building a performance trilogy based on the writings of Bob Dylan, Sylvia Plath and Patti Smith. These pieces are original devised works that lend themselves to immersion and open interaction.
