Erivo, who portrays 'Celie' in Broadway's THE COLOR PURPLE and recently appeared opposite Joshua Henry in THE LAST FIVE YEARS in concert, trained at London's RADA. Her breakout performance was in the West End production of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, followed by the starring role in Jerry Zaks' UK tour of Sister Act. Cynthia played Chenice in Simon Cowell and Harry Hill's I Can't Sing and the title role of Dessa in Dessa Rose.

Other credits include Simon Stephens' Marine Parade, John Adams' I Was Looking at the Ceiling and Then I Saw the Sky, Dominic Hill's The Three Musketeers and the Princess of Spain, Phyllida Lloyd's acclaimed Henry IV (Donmar) and A Midsummer Night's Dream (Liverpool Everyman Theatre). She has appeared on TV in Canal Plus' "The Tunnel," ITV's "Mr. Selfridge" and E4's "Chewing Gum."

Cynthia received an Evening Standard Theatre Award nomination for Best Musical Performance and a WhatsOnStage Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical for her performance as Celie in the Menier Chocolate Factory's 2013 production of The Color Purple. Erivo's Broadway debut in THE COLOR PURPLE won her a Tony and a Drama Desk, as well as an Outer Critics Circle and Theatre World Award.
