Nicola Date will appear in THE WORST
AUDITIONER IN THE WORLD

THE WORST AUDITIONER IN THE WORLD, an hour-long comedy written and performed by Nicola Date and directed by Megan Furniss, will play a limited run of three performances at the Alexander Bar's Upstairs Theatre this July.

Join Michaela Harris, a young actress armed with a master's degree in dramatic arts, a top notch agent and a big dream, on her hilarious journey as she navigates the daunting world of theatre and film auditions, all in the attempt to land her dream role. Actually, she'll take any role at all - but is she THE WORST AUDITIONER IN THE WORLD?

Writer-performer Nicola Date is a Cape Town-based actress, designer and arts manager. Hailing from Johannesburg, Date completed a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Dramatic Arts at Wits University, majoring in Arts Management and Production Design. Focusing predominantly on wardrobe and prop design, Date has worked in multiple creative fields, with some of the highlights of her career including Tastescape at Design Indaba and the Cape Town leg of the Madame Zingara tour of THE CELEBRATION. She was also a member of the Bonfire Theatre Company for two years and has recently been appointed as the manager of the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg.

Director Megan Furniss is a South African born playwright, actor, writer, director and improviser. She graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1986 and worked as an actress before starting her own improvisation troupe in Cape Town. She has written and co-written numerous plays and musicals, performed and directed theatre, and she improvises and teaches improv. She has self-published a novel, and writes short stories for competitions. THE TENT, written in 2009, was published in an anthology of South African and Argentinian plays by Projecto 34° South, and was chosen as one of six African plays to be workshopped and showcased at the National Theatre Studio in London in 2011. DRIVE WITH ME, a one-woman show written and performed by Megan Furniss, won a Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival in 2013. Megan has also won a Fleur du Cap award for Innovation in Theatre. Her latest play is CLOUDS LIKE WAVES, with her other current directing project, NIQABI NINJA, returning to the Alexander Bar from 1 - 3 August.

THE WORST AUDITIONER IN THE WORLD features a score by Ashley Glass, who is currently employed at the Masque Theatre as the Bookings Administrator. A composer and performer of alternative and experimental electronic music inspired by electronic music of the 1970s and 1980s, he is currently working on a series of electronic soundscapes and albums under the name SEA OF POISON, using vintage equipment.

THE WORST AUDITIONER IN THE WORLD runs from 28 - 30 July. Tickets cost R80-R90 and can be booked online at the Alexander Bar website or purchased at the bar.
