STAGE DOOR PLAYERS closes their 41st season with the murder mystery musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood, by Rupert Holmes, directed by Robert Egizio. Drood opens on Friday, July 10, and runs through Sunday, August 2.

Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm. Single tickets are on sale now at the box office (770-396-1726), or online at www.stagedoorplayers.net. Tickets are $30; senior, student, and youth discounts are available. Season 42 has been announced and is included at the end of this release.

Stage Door Players is located at 5339 Chamblee Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, GA 30338, approximately one block south of the Mt. Vernon Road and Chamblee Dunwoody Road intersection, in the North Dekalb Cultural Arts Center.

Featuring a huge cast of Atlanta's musical theatre favorites, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, with its multiple endings, is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. The cast includes Charlie Bradshaw, Daniel Burns, Sarah Cave, Sam Costantino, Jessica De Maria, Al Dollar, Jordan Harris, Daniel Hilton, Robert Lee Hindsman, Nolan Martin, Paige Mattox, Stuart Schleuse, Kelly Schmidt, Allie Southwood, and Bess Yunek; the show is directed by Robert Egizio, with Musical Direction by Nick Silvestri, and Choreography by Colleen Hargis.

This wildly warm-hearted theatrical experience kicks off when the Music Hall Royale "puts on" its flamboyant rendition of an unfinished Dickens mystery. Our title character disappears mysteriously one stormy Christmas Eve - but has Edwin been murdered? The giddiness of this play-within-a-play allows the audience to vote on the solution as prelude to the most unusual and hilarious finale!

"The Mystery of Edwin Drood" was the final novel by Charles Dickens, and it was unfinished at the time of his death in 1870. This musical by Rupert Holmes is a play within a play, but since the end of the novel was not written, it is determined by audience vote at each performance. It was the first Broadway musical to have multiple endings and requires the cast to prepare for many possibilities. In another first, Rupert Holmes was the first Broadway show creator to write the book, music, lyrics AND full orchestrations for a piece when he did such for Drood. The show was nominated for 11 Tony Awards, winning five: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance of Leading Actor, and Best Direction.

The production/design team includes Rial Ellsworth (Sound Design), Kathy Ellsworth (Props Design), Jane Kroessig (Costume Design), Michael W. Magursky (Lighting Design), Chuck Welcome (Scenic Design), and Hampton Whatley (Production Manager). The show is Stage Managed by Hayley Brotherton.

Tickets start at $30 and are available online at www.stagedoorplayers.net or by calling the box office at (770) 396-1726. Senior and student discounts are available. Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 8pm, and Sundays at 2:30pm.
