TACT/THE ACTORS COMPANY THEATRE (Scott Alan Evans, Cynthia Harris, Simon Jones - Co-Artistic Directors) is proud to announce the inauguration of a new educational initiative: the TACT ACADEMY. This new program's focus will be the training of young actors in a variety of methods and modalities, all of which center on creating theatre from the text and the actors' ability to bring it to life - a core principal of the TACT aesthetic. They are kicking off this initiative this summer with a Theatre Camp/Acting Workshop just for teens (students from 13 to 17) called TEEN INTENSIVE.
TEEN INTENSIVE will meet for four (4) hours a day, Monday through Friday, the week of August 16th - 20th at the TACT Studio (900 Broadway - between 19th and 20th Streets). There will be a special culminating performance on the final day, Friday, August 20th, for parents and friends. The cost is $350*.
What does an actor do? How do you take words in a script and make them live? How do you create a character? Working with members of the company's critically acclaimed Off-Broadway theatre company and actor/educator Jenny Bennett, this one week workshop will focus on unlocking the secrets of the script and using those discoveries to create a character and a performance that comes alive on the stage. Using exercises, theatre games, and special rehearsal techniques designed to increase vocal and physical expression and confidence, participants will emerge from this workshop armed with a reliable action plan for understanding and communicating any text, theatrical or otherwise - and they'll have a great time doing it!

Founded by professional actors in 1992, TACT is a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway theatre company dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely performed plays of literary merit with a focus on creating theatre from its essence: the text and the actor's ability to bring it to life. Through its Mainstage productions presented at Theatre Row on West 42nd Street, and its Salon Series performed at the TACT Studio at 900 Broadway, TACT celebrates the actor, the playwright and the rarely seen classic.
JENNY BENNETT, a fourth-generation actor and Theatre educator, recently returned from seven years in Taiwan. There she founded Mindful Phoenix Arts, an NGO company with full seasons of plays, workshops and an exciting Theatre curriculum for young and less-young members of the English-interested community. As a Lecturer at Shu-Te University, she ran the annual two-semester Theatre Project, training language learning for EFL students. In addition to many workshops for various high schools, she's been an Artist Educator for First Stage Theater Academy in Milwaukee, Metro Theater of St. Louis, and the Delaware Governor's School for Drama. Jenny has a BA from the University of Virginia and an MFA from the PTTP at the University of Delaware.
